IRIS counts how many are waiting, how long the last one in line takes, how many positions are in use and how many leave without being served. How the counting works
Counting is not something you ask for. You draw a line.
A line runs along the edge of the counter: whoever crosses it has been served. Another sits at the mouth of the queue and says how many people join and at what time. And two areas are painted on the floor, one over the waiting lane and one over the sofas, saying how many people are inside and how long they have been there. Anyone who enters the area and leaves without crossing the counter line has left without being served. Neither the line nor the area can be asked for in words: they are drawn once onto the image and stay there, so a Tuesday figure and a Friday figure are measured the same way. Counting people is the only measurement we hold approval for from the Spanish Metrology Centre, and it is NeuralPax that does it, a separate licence built into IRIS. We don't claim accuracy. We certify it.

What changes
What changes for whoever answers for the branch network
With that figure the branch manager stops assigning staff by eye. He knows what time of day it really fills up, how many positions that slot needs and how many people walk out without waiting, which is business going out of the door and shows up nowhere today. And when the whole network measures the same way, one branch can be compared with another without arguing about where the number came from. Nobody stops coming because they waited five minutes; they stop coming after waiting twenty, three times in a row.
What people usually ask
Can IRIS's people counting be used to size a branch?
Yes. Counting people is the only measurement we hold approval for from the Spanish Metrology Centre, and it is NeuralPax that does it, a separate licence built into IRIS. That is why the figure stands up in front of whoever has to check it when it is used to set opening hours, positions and extra cover, and to compare one branch with another. We don't claim accuracy: we certify it. Everything else IRIS does is not covered by that approval, and we do not present it as if it were.
Does IRIS know who is standing in the queue?
No. In a bank branch IRIS does not recognise faces, does not compare them against any database, does not read number plates and does not identify any customer. It counts bodies crossing a line and bodies inside a drawn area. It knows there are seventeen people waiting and that the last one has been there eleven minutes; it does not know who any of them are, and it does not need to in order to give the figure.
Does the figure come from the queue screen?
No. IRIS does not read screens or signs. The queue screen counts whoever took a ticket; the line counts whoever actually reached the counter, and the area counts whoever is waiting even if they took no ticket, sat down or left first. That is why the two figures need not match, and why the camera's figure is measured the same way every day.
