The day one rolls away with the bonnet up there is no report, no time and no footage: there are five different versions. With the camera, the area manager has the exact minute, how far the car travelled and the video of what was still plugged in. That changes a procedure; memories do not.

Can IRIS brake the car?
No. IRIS acts on nothing: it does not brake, it does not cut power and it sends nobody anywhere. It gives the alert right away that a vehicle is moving with the bonnet or a door open, and saves the video from the first metre. Who goes, what gets done and whether the area is stopped is a person’s decision. The system supplies the picture and the time.
How does IRIS know the bonnet is open?
By its shape. From above, a car with the bonnet up has a different outline from a closed one, and the same goes for an open door. IRIS does not read the vehicle’s electronics and does not talk to its control unit: it looks at the image. If the plant wants to cross-check with the test bench, it can, but the alert comes from what is visible.
What if in that area cars are meant to move like that?
Then it is not an alert. The plant writes the rule, not IRIS: you can exclude the roller bay, the rework area or the hours when those manoeuvres are done. IRIS does not decide what is right or wrong in a plant; it detects the situation it was asked for and leaves it with a time and an image. The judgement always belongs to whoever runs the area.
