A fixing point left empty

Interior assembly station. An operator leans into the body shell and points with his glove at a floor fixing point left without a bolt. On the other side of the rail a colleague steadies the skid. What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

A missing floor bolt is invisible once the car is assembled: it turns up months later as a noise, a vibration or a recall check. With the camera the alert comes out at the station itself, with the image of the empty point and the time. The operator fits it and the line carries on. And the evidence stays: that unit has an image of the point before and another after.

What people usually ask

Does IRIS check whether the bolt is properly tightened?

No. IRIS sees whether the point is empty or whether something is in place. Torque is not visible in an image: it is measured by the connected tool, which is what knows the force applied. The two things complement each other: the camera says the part is missing, the tool says whether the one fitted reached the required torque.

What if the operator covers the point with his hand just then?

Then IRIS waits. It only confirms a point once it has seen it clear, and if a hand covers it at the moment of the check it looks for the next unobstructed frame. It never passes a point it could not see, and if the body moves on before that, what it sends is a notice that the check could not be made.

Does this replace the quality check at the end of the line?

No. Final inspection remains final inspection. What the camera does is bring the alert forward to the station where the fault is fixed in seconds rather than hours, and leave an image with the exact time for each unit. IRIS works alongside the quality system, never instead of it.
