The tool never reached one of the points

Tightening station. The robotic nutrunner has come down, but it has stopped off target: the tip is not over the hole it was meant for. On the pillar, marked in the image, is the point that was not tightened. Two operators watch the body from the aisle and a third waits by the rail. To the right, the trolley with the station’s bolts. IRIS follows the tool point by point and sees which one it skipped.

What IRIS understands

What it recognises in this scene

  • tightening point the tool never touched
  • robotic nutrunner lowered off target
  • operator standing in front of the station
  • operator watching the body from the aisle
  • trolley of bolts for the station
  • body shell at the tightening station

What this camera measures

An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.

  • 8Points in the station sequence
  • 7Points the tool reached
  • 1 min 50 sLength of the cycle
  • 3People in shot
  • 11:26Time of the cycle

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

the tool finishes the cycle without having reached a point in the sequence

Then

  1. alert the station with the station, the skipped point and the time
  2. save the video of the whole tightening cycle
  3. attach the alert to the body shell that was at the station
The instruction that set it up«Tell me when the tool does not reach one of the points in the sequence.»

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

The plant system receives the tightenings the tool actually made. What appears in no data at all is the point the tool never entered: a tightening that does not happen produces no record. With the camera the alert comes out at the station, with the image of the tip off target and the time. The unit does not move on to the next station one tightening short with nobody knowing.

What people usually ask

Does IRIS measure tightening torque?

No, and that is the whole reason this camera exists. Torque comes from the connected tool, which is what measures the force; a camera cannot see it. What IRIS sees is whether the tool reached the point or stopped short of it. And that is the difference: a point the tool never entered produces no torque data at all, which is why nothing flags it anywhere.

What is the camera for if there is already a connected tool?

To cover exactly what the tool cannot report. The nutrunner reports the tightenings it made; it does not report the ones it did not, because for the tool they never existed. IRIS watches the whole cycle, counts the points the tool reached and flags it when one is missing, with the footage of the cycle and the exact minute. Together the two sources close the gap.

Does IRIS stop the station when a tightening is missing?

No. IRIS does not act on any machine and stops nothing. It sends the alert with the image and the time to whoever runs the line, and that person decides what happens: redo the tightening at the post, pull the unit aside or let it through. What deserves a stop and what does not is written by the plant, not by the camera.

Demo · IRIS at work

A new case each time. Always the same screen.

It plays by itself and shows one case from start to finish. It is a summary: the real screen has far more functions than fit in this box.

  1. The rule gets built
  2. It goes to every camera
  3. Published, it watches alone
  4. And then it fires

And the best part

What happens outside the framedoes not exist for IRIS. No camera sees the whole world.

So the first thing we do is check what each camera covers and write it down: from here you can understand this, and not that. A dull hour that saves a lot of misunderstandings.

Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

We reply the same working day.
