What changes
What changes for whoever answers for the terminal
The access log says one truck came in. The one that came in without being logged exists on no piece of paper: nobody knows what it carried, where it went or when it left. The day something goes wrong in the yard, the list of who was inside is incomplete and nobody knew it. With a count of vehicles per opening, the mismatch shows up the same day and with video, not three weeks later.
What people usually ask
Does IRIS know who was in the second truck?
No. IRIS does not identify people and does not recognise faces. What it sees is a countable fact: two vehicles crossed the barrier line and there was only one opening. It alerts on that and leaves the video and the time. Putting a name to whoever was driving is a person’s job, with those images and the port’s own procedure in hand.
Does the same work for people at a turnstile?
Yes, it is the same rule. You count how many bodies cross the line and compare it with how many authorisations there were; if two go through on one, there is a mismatch. People counting is also the one thing we have certified: the figure is verified by the Spanish Metrology Centre, not by us.
And what if the barrier stays open?
That is detected too, and in many ports it raises more alerts than double entries. IRIS times how long the arm has been up or the gate open with nobody going through, and alerts once the port limit is passed. Often nobody is forcing anything: there is a fault, a wedge somebody put in on purpose, or a habit nobody has reviewed in years.
