CAM-444

A container opened outside the working window

Mid-afternoon in the container block. On the bottom tier, a door is open and the cargo in boxes can be seen inside. Two people are standing at the doorway. A truck passes down the aisle without stopping. That row has no operation open at this hour. IRIS detects the open door, the position of the container in the stack and the exact minute, and compares that time with the working window the port has set for the block.

What IRIS understands

What it recognises in this scene

  • container door open
  • person in the doorway
  • second person beside the container
  • cargo visible inside the container
  • container on the bottom tier

What this camera measures

An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.

  • 15:05Time of the opening
  • 03:40Time the door has been open
  • 2People beside the container
  • 1Open doors in the row
  • 1Vehicles in the aisle

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

a container door is opened outside the working window of the block

Then

  1. alert the control post with the camera, the position in the stack and the time
  2. save the video from thirty seconds before the door opened
  3. time how long the door stays open
The instruction that set it up«Tell me if a container door is opened in the block outside operating hours.»

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the terminal

A container opened where it should not be shows up in no system until somebody breaks the seal at destination and counts what is missing, weeks later and thousands of kilometres away. By then there is no image, no time and no way of knowing where in the chain it happened. With the camera there is a minute, a position in the stack and a video. That is what turns a claim into a case that holds up.

What people usually ask

Does IRIS say a theft is taking place?

No, and it must not. What IRIS states is what can be seen: there is an open container door, at this position in the stack, at this time, and that time falls outside the working window of the block. It could be an unlogged inspection, a crew getting ahead of the job, or a problem. A person decides which, with the video and the exact minute in front of them.

Does it identify the people who appear?

No. IRIS does not recognise faces and does not compare them with any database. It detects situations: there are two people beside an open door. The image is kept, and the port uses it under its own procedure and its own data protection policy. The system puts no names on anybody, and has nothing to put them with.

How does IRIS know which hours are the right ones?

The port tells it. The working window for each block, each row and each shift is written by whoever runs the terminal, and can be changed at any time. IRIS only compares the time of the opening with that window. It does not invent the rule and does not interpret it: it applies the one it has been given, and leaves a record every time it does.

See it for yourself

A camera looks. IRIS understands what it sees.

An extract of the real screen, no voice-over and hands-free. Each round poses another situation. What sits behind it is a good deal bigger than what you see.

  1. It lands in the tray
  2. You open it
  3. You confirm or dismiss

And the best part

Nothing changes on the wall.On the screen, everything changes.

Same brackets, same cabling, same cameras. The only difference is that those images are now understood as they come in, instead of waiting for someone to open them.

Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

We reply the same working day.
