CAM-446

He walks past the sign to the diesel tank with no helmet

Mid-morning on the quay. A man in a dark shirt and jeans walks past the fence with the restricted-area plate and keeps going towards the diesel tank and the railway track. He is wearing neither helmet nor vest. A few metres away, on the other side of the yellow railing, two workers are at it with helmets and hi-vis vests. IRIS sees both things at once: the missing kit, and a boundary drawn on the image being crossed.

What IRIS understands

What it recognises in this scene

  • person with no helmet or vest
  • fuel tank
  • restricted-area sign
  • worker with helmet and vest
  • live track with a wagon on it

What this camera measures

An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.

  • 1People inside the area
  • 40 sTime inside the area
  • 2People wearing the kit
  • 3People in shot
  • 11:15Time of the crossing

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

a person enters the restricted area without a helmet or without a hi-vis vest

Then

  1. alert the quay safety manager with the camera, the spot and the time
  2. save the video from the moment the person approached the fence
  3. log the crossing in the area record for the shift review
The instruction that set it up«Tell me if anyone enters the fuel area or crosses towards the track without a helmet and a vest.»

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the terminal

The port security manager usually finds out about this when there is already an accident report or an inspector in front of him. Between a fuel tank, a live track and the swing of two cranes, the difference between a fright and a funeral is thirty seconds. With the camera, the alert goes out while the person is still walking, with the image so whoever receives it can see the exact spot and decide who to send. And the crossing stays on record with its time.

What people usually ask

Does IRIS know who that person is?

No. IRIS does not recognise faces and does not compare them with any list. It sees a situation: a person with no helmet and no vest has crossed a boundary drawn on the image. The alert says where and when, and attaches the video. Putting a name to that person is the port's job, with its access records and its own people. The camera is there to get someone there in time, not to point a finger.

Can different kit be required in each area?

Yes. The rule is written by the port, not by IRIS. On the berth line you may require helmet and vest; next to fuel, also specific footwear and clothing; in the rail yard the vest alone may be enough. Each area is drawn on the image of its own camera and carries its own list of mandatory kit and its own hours. If the operation changes, the area is redrawn and the rule applies again.

Does the alert fire if someone is carrying the helmet in their hand?

Yes. For the camera, a helmet that is not on a head is a helmet that is not protecting anyone, and the alert fires just the same. What IRIS cannot check is whether that kit is approved, out of date or properly fitted: that is still a check a person carries out. The camera looks at whether it is worn, not at whether it is the right one.

See it for yourself

Watch what happens. Then watch what IRIS does with it.

Not a recorded video and not a drawing: it is a summary of the real tool, with a different case each time round. The whole tool does not fit in a box.

And the best part

Nothing changes on the wall.On the screen, everything changes.

Same brackets, same cabling, same cameras. The only difference is that those images are now understood as they come in, instead of waiting for someone to open them.

Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

We reply the same working day.
