Finished charging and still in the bay

Late afternoon in the charging area: two bays painted green against the wall, each with its own post. A light-coloured car is still parked in the first one. Its charge point has already closed the session. In the bay next door there is another electric car and the second post is in the same state. A car drives past along the aisle looking for a free charging bay that right now does not exist.

What IRIS understands

What it recognises in this scene

  • electric vehicle still in the charging bay
  • charge point serving that bay
  • charging symbol painted on the bay
  • vehicle in the second charging bay
  • car driving along the aisle

What this camera measures

An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.

  • 1 h 35 minTime since the charger finished
  • 3 h 10 minTime the vehicle has been in the bay
  • 0 / 2Charging bays free
  • 4Sessions finished at the point today
  • 17:05Time the charge finished

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

the charge point has finished and the vehicle stays in the bay for over half an hour

Then

  1. alert the car park staff with the camera and the time
  2. time the minutes the point has been occupied without charging
  3. save the video of the moment the session ended
The instruction that set it up«Tell me when a car has been in the charging bay for over half an hour after the charger finished.»

What changes

What changes for whoever runs the car park

A charging bay held by a car that has finished charging is not a bay: it is a charger standing idle. The car park loses sessions and the next driver leaves. The camera alone does not know whether charging is done, and the charger alone does not know whether the car is still there. Put the two together and the manager sees how many minutes a day each point sits occupied without charging, and can act on that number.

What people usually ask

Does the camera know whether the car has finished charging?

No, and it does not pretend to. The state of the charge comes from the charge point, which is the thing that knows. The camera sees that the vehicle is still inside the bay and times it from the moment the charger said it was done. The two together are the rule: without the charger there is no state, and without the camera nobody knows whether the car has left.

Does IRIS read the plate to notify the driver?

No. Here IRIS does not read plates. It sees an occupied bay and counts the time. Which vehicle it is and how the driver is contacted is handled by the car park system or the charging network, which hold the session and the contact details. IRIS supplies the exact minute and the image showing the bay is still taken.

Can you find out how many charging sessions are lost each day?

Yes, by counting. The camera measures how many minutes each point is held by a car that is no longer charging, and that figure is compared with how long a normal session lasts at that point. The result is a repeatable number per point and per time band. What is done with it, warning, charging for the extra time or changing the signage, is decided by the car park.

This isn’t a video. It’s a slice of the real screen.

A summary of the real interface, played hands-free. You see one case from start to finish; what you do not see are the other screens, and there are many.

  1. Finds the plate
  2. Reads the characters
  3. Follows the same plate

And the best part

If the camera does not show it,IRIS does not see it. We say so up front, not afterwards.

No camera sees through a wall or in complete darkness. We would rather show you where the limit is, and place what you have well, than promise something that never appears on screen.

Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

We reply the same working day.
