Finished charging and still in the space

Late afternoon in the charging area: two spaces painted green against the wall, each with its own post. A light-colored car is still parked in the first one. Its charge point has already closed the session. In the space next door there’s another electric car and the second post is in the same state. A car drives past along the aisle looking for a free charging space that right now doesn’t exist.

What IRIS understands

What it recognizes in this scene

  • electric vehicle still in the charging space
  • charge point serving that space
  • charging symbol painted on the space
  • vehicle in the second charging space
  • car driving along the aisle

What this camera measures

An alert says something’s happening. The reading says how much.

  • 1 h 35 minTime since the charger finished
  • 3 h 10 minTime the vehicle has been in the space
  • 0 / 2Charging spaces free
  • 4Sessions finished at the point today
  • 17:05Time the charge finished

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client’s measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

the charge point has finished and the vehicle stays in the space for over half an hour

Then

  1. alert the parking lot staff with the camera and the time
  2. time the minutes the point has been occupied without charging
  3. save the video of the moment the session ended
The instruction that set it up«Tell me when a car has been in the charging space for over half an hour after the charger finished.»

What changes

What changes for whoever runs the parking lot

A charging space held by a car that has finished charging isn’t a space: it’s a charger standing idle. The parking lot loses sessions and the next driver leaves. The camera alone doesn’t know whether charging is done, and the charger alone doesn’t know whether the car is still there. Put the two together and the manager sees how many minutes a day each point sits occupied without charging, and can act on that number.

What people usually ask

Does the camera know whether the car has finished charging?

No, and it doesn’t pretend to. The state of the charge comes from the charge point, which is the thing that knows. The camera sees that the vehicle is still inside the space and times it from the moment the charger said it was done. The two together are the rule: without the charger there’s no state, and without the camera nobody knows whether the car has left.

Does IRIS read the plate to notify the driver?

No. Here IRIS doesn’t read plates. It sees an occupied space and counts the time. Which vehicle it’s and how the driver is contacted is handled by the parking lot system or the charging network, which hold the session and the contact details. IRIS supplies the exact minute and the image showing the space is still taken.

Can you find out how many charging sessions are lost each day?

Yes, by counting. The camera measures how many minutes each point is held by a car that’s no longer charging, and that figure is compared with how long a normal session lasts at that point. The result is a repeatable number per point and per time band. What’s done with it, warning, charging for the extra time or changing the signage, is decided by the parking lot.

This isn’t a video. It’s a slice of the real screen.

A summary of the real interface, played hands-free. You see one case from start to finish; what you don’t see are the other screens, and there are many.

  2. Reads the characters

And the best part

If the camera doesn’t show it,IRIS doesn’t see it. We say so up front, not afterward.

No camera sees through a wall or in complete darkness. We’d rather show you where the limit is, and place what you have well, than promise something that never appears on screen.

Tell us your problem and we’ll say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

A person answers, the same working day.
