CAM-511

Five people waiting and a desk set up with nobody at it

Mid-morning in the branch. Five people stand behind the cord and a single member of staff is serving at the counter. In the foreground, an advisory desk set up and ready — screen on, papers laid out, chair free — has had nobody at it for a good while. IRIS sees both things at once: the line that isn’t going down and the desk that’s ready and empty.

What IRIS understands

What it recognizes in this scene

  • advisory desk set up and unoccupied
  • free chair at the desk
  • five people waiting on their feet
  • last person in line
  • counter with a single person serving
  • customer being served
  • waiting area with two people seated
  • cord and posts marking the line

What this camera measures

An alert says something’s happening. The reading says how much.

  • 5People waiting on their feet
  • 12 min+5 minWait for the last person in line
  • 1 / 3Positions serving, of those there are
  • 26 minTime the desk has been set up and empty
  • 10:42Time of the alert

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client’s measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

more than three people are waiting and a service desk has been set up and unoccupied for over fifteen minutes

Then

  1. alert the person running the branch with the desk and how many people are waiting
  2. save the video of the minute the line started to build up
  3. leave the wait and the open positions noted in the daily log
The instruction that set it up«Tell me when more than three people are waiting and a desk has been set up and empty for over fifteen minutes.»

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the branch network

A line isn’t fixed by looking at the line: it is fixed by opening another position, and for that you have to find out while it’s happening, not when you read yesterday’s sheet. IRIS puts the two figures together — how many are waiting and how many positions are in use — on the desk of the person running the branch, who decides. That turns a complaint into a five-minute decision. And let it be clear what the alert is for: opening another position, never pointing at whoever is serving.

What people usually ask

Is this a way of monitoring staff?

No, and it’s worth saying plainly. IRIS does not recognize faces, does not identify any employee, does not measure anyone’s performance and does not log anyone’s hours. What it sees is a desk: whether it is set up, whether it is occupied and how long it’s been that way, the same way it sees a chair or a screen. The alert is for opening another position when there’s a line, not for pointing at whoever is serving. And the person who decides what to do with that figure is a person, whose work a camera doesn’t measure either.

How does IRIS know the desk is empty and not that someone bent down?

Because it doesn’t look at an instant: it looks over a stretch of time. The rule doesn’t fire because one frame shows nobody, but when the desk has gone fifteen minutes straight with no one seated and there are people waiting as well. That double requirement is what stops the alert from going off every time someone gets up to fetch a document.

Does IRIS know why nobody is at the desk?

No. It doesn’t know whether that person is in a meeting, handling something in another room or on a break, and it has no business knowing. It sees a fact: there’s a desk ready, it is unoccupied and five people are waiting. What to do with that fact is decided by the person running the branch, who does know everything else.

Demo · IRIS at work

You set the rule once. IRIS applies it every time.

You will see a summary of the interface, played step by step and hands-free. Each round starts with another case. The complete tool doesn’t fit in a demo.

  1. The rule gets built
  2. It goes to every camera
  3. Published, it watches alone
  4. And then it fires

And the best part

What holds on camera oneholds on camera four thousand, with nothing to copy by hand.

A rule is stated once and applies everywhere. And it says the same thing on Sunday night as on Tuesday morning, whoever is on call.

Tell us your problem and we’ll say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

A person answers, the same working day.
