He walks in with the helmet on and the visor down
Mid-morning, a high-street branch. The glass door swings open and someone walks in with a full-face helmet on and the visor down. The motorbike is parked at the kerb a few metres away, visible through the same glass. To the left stands the entrance security arch; at the back, an employee is serving a customer at the counter. The branch has a simple written rule: inside, faces uncovered. IRIS sees that the rule is not being met and says so the moment the door closes. Nothing else.

The rule
You decide once. IRIS applies it always.
If
somebody comes through the door with their face covered and stays that way inside the branch
Then
- raise a silent alert on the branch screen
- open the live video of the door
- save the clip from the moment the person approached the door
The instruction that set it up«Alert me quietly on the counter screen if somebody comes into the branch with their face covered by a helmet, a balaclava or a hood pulled down to the eyes.»
What changes
What changes for whoever answers for the branch network
A siren does not fix this: a discreet alert on the branch screen three seconds after the door closes does. Most of the time it is someone who arrived by motorbike and forgot to take it off, and all it takes is asking them casually before they reach the counter. That is the whole gain, and it is the difference between a polite sentence and a situation nobody knows how to start. The rule had always been there; what was missing was somebody seeing it kept, in every branch at once.
What people usually ask
Is IRIS saying that person is about to do something?
No, and it matters to get this right. IRIS does not judge intentions, does not infer them and does not hint at them. The branch has a rule — inside, faces uncovered — and all IRIS does is see that right now it is not being met. The most likely explanation is in the picture itself: there is a motorbike parked at the kerb. That it is almost always that is not a failure of the system; it is exactly what it is for, because the rule is met with one polite sentence and that is the end of it.
And what about a face mask, a hard hat or a scarf in winter?
The branch writes the rule, not us. It can ask only for full-face helmets, or for covered faces in general, and it can be tuned by hours, by branch or by time of year. It can also be switched off where it makes no sense. It is the same as with any rule: if it gets in the way more than it helps, it is changed in a minute and applies from the next minute in every branch. What cannot be tuned is a rule that does not exist.
Does IRIS recognise the person coming in?
No. IRIS does not recognise faces, does not compare them with anything and keeps nobody’s identity; and here what it sees is precisely the opposite: that there is no face to see. The frame has its limit too, and that is worth saying: this camera covers the door and the first few metres of the lobby. What happens at the counter, in the cash-machine area or at a second entrance is not covered, because those are other cameras. One camera is not good for everything, and anyone who says otherwise has never installed one.

Why did the line stop?
237 cases, and in every one of them IRIS raises an alert when something happens. You see each image as it is, and then with what it understands on top.

How many bays are free right now?
15 cases: 9 raise an alert when something happens and 6 only measure. You see each image as it is, and then with what IRIS understands on top.
And the best part
IRIS only sees what the camera shows.Where we do not reach, we say so.
No software fixes a lens pointing the wrong way or covered in dust. Before promising anything, we say which cameras are in a state to see what you are asking of them.
Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.
We reply the same working day.
