Load spilled across a lane
Several boxes and a pallet have fallen into the middle lane, and a loose tyre has ended up a few metres further on. The car coming up behind brakes hard to swerve around them.

What IRIS understands
What it recognises in this scene
- spilled load
- pallet
- tyre
- hard braking
- lane blocked
The rule
You decide once. IRIS applies it always.
If
an object appears on the road that was not there before and stays still
Then
- alert the control room with the lane and the location
- close that lane and lower the limit on the stretch
- send the patrol the video and the position
The instruction that set it up«Tell me if something falls onto the road, and which lane it has landed in.»
What changes
What changes for whoever runs the road
A pallet in the middle lane does not move on its own, and each car that arrives swerves round it a little later than the one before. Today the control room finds out when somebody phones, and the call often comes after the first near miss. With IRIS the operator gets the alert as soon as the object comes to rest on the carriageway, with the exact lane and the picture. He closes that lane and sends the patrol with the exact spot, so nobody has to go hunting for the load along the shoulder.
What people usually ask
How small an object on the road can IRIS see?
It depends on the distance to the camera and on the definition of the image, not on a fixed figure. A box, a pallet, a tyre or a bumper show up clearly within the stretch a camera reliably covers; a bolt or a small piece of plastic does not. At installation we check stretch by stretch how far each camera reaches, and that reach is what we promise, not a metre more.
And what about a bag blowing across the road?
IRIS looks at whether the object stays put and for how long it has been there. A bag blowing across does not meet that condition and raises no alert; a bag that catches on the barrier and stays there can. The minimum time and minimum size can be tuned for that stretch, so the operator gets what really has to be picked up.
Who clears the load away?
The maintenance patrol, as always. What changes is that it sets off sooner and knowing what it will find: which lane, what it is and since when. And there is the video of the moment it fell, which is what allows a claim against the haulier if the vehicle can be identified.

Casinos
How long does it take to find a hand played two hours ago?
12 cases: 9 raise an alert when something happens and 3 only measure. You see each image as it is, and then with what IRIS understands on top.
Shopping centres
What does a shopping centre see beyond the visitor count?
12 cases: 4 raise an alert when something happens and 8 only measure. You see each image as it is, and then with what IRIS understands on top.
And the best part
You write the rule yourself, in your own words.Nobody has to program it for you.
“Tell me if a fire door is left open.” That is the whole rule. From then on it applies on every camera and at any hour, without ever touching it again.
Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.
We reply the same working day.
