How many people come in through each door, and when
Saturday afternoon. The entrance plaza has two doors: the big glazed one, two storeys high, and a smaller one on the left. The big one takes a steady stream that never breaks; the small one takes the odd person. A family crosses the plaza, a couple arrives at the corner and someone is resting on the planter bench. IRIS counts how many people cross each door, at what time, and how many are on the plaza at any moment. It counts bodies, not people with names: it recognises no faces.

How the counting works
Counting is not something you ask for. You draw a line.
There is a line drawn on the threshold of each door: cross it inwards and you are added, cross it outwards and you are taken off. And there is a zone painted over the whole plaza, telling you how many people are standing outside the centre and how long they stay. Neither the line nor the zone is asked for in words: they are drawn once on the image and there they stay, so a Tuesday and a Saturday are measured the same way. Counting people is the only measurement we hold certified by the Spanish Centre for Metrology, and it is done by NeuralPax, an independent licence that sits inside IRIS. We do not claim the accuracy. We certify it.

- alert the operations lead with the door and the time it stopped counting
- save the video of that minute so you can see whether the door is shut or broken
- flag that slot in the report so the day's count is not short without explanation

What changes
What changes for operations, for asset management and for security
This number is not an alarm: it is the value of the centre written down. With the curve per door and per hour, the operations manager decides opening times, where to put cleaning and security staff and which entrance needs fixing. The asset manager uses it for something else: to sit down and negotiate a rent with the figure in front of them instead of an estimate. And when someone asks where the number comes from, the answer is a line drawn on the image and a certified measurement, not somebody's arithmetic.

Is this number good enough to negotiate a rent?
Yes, and that is what it is used for most. Counting people is the only measurement we hold certified by the Spanish Centre for Metrology, and it is done by NeuralPax, an independent licence that sits inside IRIS. That means the figure is verified by a third party, not by us, and it holds up in front of whoever has to review it. Everything else IRIS does does not carry that certification, and we do not present it as if it did.
Does IRIS know who comes through the door?
No. IRIS does not recognise faces, does not compare them against any database and does not follow anyone around the centre. It counts bodies crossing a line and bodies inside a drawn zone. It knows three thousand one hundred and forty people have come in through the big door; it does not know who any of them are, and it does not need to in order to give the figure.
Why isn't the visitor figure we already have enough?
Because a visitor count tells you how many people came, and that is all. IRIS also tells you where they came in, where they stayed and which areas they avoided. The first gives you a report; the second changes where a campaign goes, what time you open and what a unit is worth. Same centre, two very different levels of detail.
