A raw trolley crossing into the cooked zone
Early afternoon in a ready-meals room. The floor carries two colour markings: one bounds the side where raw product is handled and the open sacks of flour and soy protein sit; the other bounds the side where cooked trays are packed. An operator pushes a trolley loaded with raw meat trays and crosses from one side to the other, over the warning band painted on the floor.

What IRIS understands
What it recognises in this scene
- trolley with raw trays
- operator pushing the trolley
- sacks of flour and soy protein
- boundary between zones
- cooked product packing
What this camera measures
An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.
- 3Boundary crossings this shift
- 35 sSince the last crossing
- 4Trays on the trolley
- 13:07Time of the alert
- 4People in the frame
The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.
The rule
You decide once. IRIS applies it always.
If
a person or a trolley moves from the raw product area into the cooked product area
Then
- alert the quality manager with the camera, the time and the direction of the crossing
- keep the seconds of video of the crossing, so you can see what material went across
- keep the alert open until somebody records which batch was in the room
The instruction that set it up«Tell me if anyone takes material from the raw side into the cooked packing side, even if they only cross for a second.»
What changes
What changes for whoever answers for the plant
Crossing between raw and cooked is one of the few faults you cannot see in the finished product. The tray comes out fine, it packs fine, and the problem shows up weeks later in a complaint or a lab result. The circuits are kept apart with paint, with doors and with training, and somebody still takes the short cut. IRIS sees the crossing while it is happening and records it with the time, so the quality manager knows which batch was in the room that minute.
What people usually ask
Does the camera know whether the product has been contaminated?
No. IRIS sees that a trolley with raw product went across into the cooked area, and the exact time it did. Whether that contaminated anything, and how much, is answered by a laboratory test and decided by the quality manager. What the camera adds is proof that the crossing happened and the minute it happened, which is exactly what is not recorded anywhere today.
Does it also work for keeping allergen and allergen-free lines apart?
Yes. The rule is the same with different areas: allergen material entering a line that carries none, utensils moving from one area to another, a trolley coming back the wrong way. The plant defines which circuits must not mix and in which direction, and IRIS raises the alert when they cross. The criterion is the plant's; the camera only watches that it holds.
Does IRIS know who crossed?
No, and that is not what it is for. IRIS detects that a person with a trolley crossed the boundary; it does not recognise faces, it does not match them against any file and it is not a tool for disciplining anyone. The alert says what happened and at what time. Who was on shift is something the plant knows through its own records, not through the camera.

See it for yourself
A camera looks. IRIS understands what it sees.
An extract of the real screen, no voice-over and hands-free. Each round poses another situation. What sits behind it is a good deal bigger than what you see.

Critical infrastructure
Who is watching a site where there is almost never anybody?
44 cases, and in every one of them IRIS raises an alert when something happens. You see each image as it is, and then with what it understands on top.

Why did the line stop?
237 cases, and in every one of them IRIS raises an alert when something happens. You see each image as it is, and then with what it understands on top.
And the best part
Behind one camera you can put a person.Behind four thousand you cannot put anyone.
Adding a camera costs little; adding another pair of eyes does not. So the cameras keep growing and the attention does not. IRIS watches all four thousand at once and flags what matters today.
Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.
