CAM-200

The line has stopped and nobody knows why

Mid-morning in the bottling hall. The juice filler has stopped. An operator in a white coat, blue hairnet and gloves has opened the guard and has both hands inside the machine. Three colleagues wait on their feet beside him with nothing to do. On the belt to the left the bottles have not moved for minutes. The signal tower is still lit above the frame. IRIS sees that product has stopped moving and starts timing from the first second.

What IRIS understands

What it recognises in this scene

  • operator with hands inside the machine
  • juice filler at a standstill
  • bottles stationary on the belt
  • machine signal tower
  • operator waiting beside the line

What this camera measures

An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.

  • 4 min 20 sTime stopped
  • 8People in shot
  • 38Bottles stationary on the run
  • 3Stops counted this shift
  • 11:42Time of the stop

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

product stops moving through the filler for more than a minute

Then

  1. alert the shift supervisor with the camera, the time and the exact minute
  2. save the video of the thirty seconds before the stop
  3. time the stop until the bottles start moving again
The instruction that set it up«Tell me when the filler stops putting out bottles for more than a minute, and show me the video from just before.»

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

The plant manager does not hear about the stop while it is happening: it reaches him at the end of the shift, in a handwritten report, with whatever cause somebody remembers. With the camera he has the exact time, the minute the line started again and the video of the seconds before. That footage shows whether it was a jam, a lack of product or somebody opening the machine. Two-minute stops, the ones nobody writes down, stop being invisible.

What people usually ask

Does IRIS know why the line stopped?

Not on its own. IRIS sees that product has stopped moving and saves the video of the seconds before. That footage shows whether there was a jam, a lack of product or somebody opening the machine. A person decides the cause, and the system hands them the exact time and the images so it takes a minute instead of half an hour.

Does it also catch short micro-stops?

Yes, if the plant asks for it. The plant writes the threshold: it can be a minute, thirty seconds or ten. IRIS times every stop from the first second and adds them up across the shift. The two-minute stops nobody writes in the report are the ones that eat the most time over a month.

Does IRIS stop the line or replace the production system?

It does neither. IRIS alerts, it does not act: it does not stop a line and it does not send anybody anywhere, a person decides that. And it does not replace the system that already runs production or the quality system: it works alongside them and adds what they lack, which is the image and the exact minute of what happened in front of the machine.

Demo · IRIS at work

A camera looks. IRIS understands what it sees.

An extract of the real screen, no voice-over and hands-free. Each round poses another situation. What sits behind it is a good deal bigger than what you see.

And the best part

You have paid for years to store video.Nobody has ever watched it.

Recording is not understanding. The footage is still kept in case you need it, but you no longer have to sit through it to know what happened.

Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

We reply the same working day.
