A foreign object caught on the belt is dealt with by pulling one tray. The same foreign object found in a customer’s warehouse is dealt with by pulling a whole batch. IRIS sees what does not belong in the stream of product and raises the alert while the object is still in view, with the camera, the time and the video. The quality manager knows which trays went past it and at what minute.
What people usually ask
Does IRIS guarantee that no foreign body reaches the product?
No, and that is worth saying plainly. A camera sees what is in view: a glove, a piece of plastic, a piece of cardboard or a tool on top of the belt. It does not see what is inside a sealed pack or underneath the product. It is one more layer, alongside the metal detector and the quality checks, and it replaces neither of them.
Does it also detect chemical residues, allergens or bacteria?
No. No camera sees any of that. IRIS detects objects, people, spills and the visible state of a line. An allergen, a chemical residue or a microbiological load is confirmed by a laboratory analysis, and that is how it has to be said. Where an analysis is needed, an analysis is needed.
How does this help narrow down a batch?
Through the time. The alert is stored with the exact minute and the video of that stretch. If product has to be pulled, you know from which moment to which one trays went past that object, instead of blocking a whole shift of production just in case.
