A near miss leaves no report. Nobody is hurt, nothing is damaged and the shift carries on. That is why a crossing where it happens fifteen times a month looks as safe as one where it never happens. With the camera, every scare is recorded with its time, its video and its crossing. After a month you can see which corner collects the encounters, and that is fixed with a mirror, a barrier or a change of route.

Does IRIS stop the AGV or the forklift?
No. IRIS drives nothing and brakes nothing. The AGV has its own sensors and the forklift has a person on it. What IRIS does is see the encounter from above, give the alert while it is happening and save the twenty seconds that explain it. With that the safety manager can go to the crossing and change something, instead of finding out on the day of the accident.
How does IRIS measure the distance between the person and the vehicle?
Against the floor. The aisle has lines, zebra stripes and slab joints at known distances, and the view is calibrated once against those references. From then on the distance is read off those marks. If the floor has no references, the plant paints some, or the rule is set to paths crossing at all, with no metres involved.
What is the point of counting near misses?
It lets you fix the crossing before the accident. One encounter is bad luck; fifteen a month at the same corner is a problem with how the aisle is laid out. IRIS leaves every encounter with its time and its video, so at the end of the month you have a list instead of a feeling. Asking is for finding, counting is for measuring: here you need both.
