The rule
You decide once. IRIS applies it always.
If
a vehicle moves against the direction of traffic
Duringmore than 3 seconds
And alsothere are other vehicles on the same stretch
Then
- alert the local police
- report the stretch and the direction
- save the video of the run
The instruction that set it up«Tell me if a vehicle is driving the wrong way, and on which stretch.»
What changes
What changes for whoever runs the city
Late shift in the control room: twenty streets in the same wall of screens, and the car coming up the wrong way sits in a corner tile the size of a thumbnail. Today the operator finds out when a resident phones in, and by then the patrol reaches an empty street and the incident is written down nowhere. With IRIS that alert reaches him with the stretch, the direction and the video of the run, and he decides whether to send anyone. A month on he has the list of streets where it keeps happening, which is what lets him ask for new signs with the figures in front of him.
What people usually ask
Does IRIS know which way each street runs?
Yes, IRIS knows which way each street runs because the direction of traffic is set once on the image from each camera. From then on IRIS compares every vehicle's path with that direction and only raises an alert when someone goes against it. If the street changes direction, you change the setting, not the model.
How long does IRIS take to alert once a car enters the wrong way?
IRIS alerts within seconds: the alert goes out as soon as the vehicle covers a few metres against the configured direction. That minimum distance is deliberate: a car reversing or manoeuvring into a parking space is not driving the wrong way and should not raise an alert. The margin is tuned street by street.
Does IRIS also detect a motorbike or a bicycle going the wrong way?
Yes, IRIS detects motorbikes and bicycles going the wrong way too, and the council decides whether they also raise an alert. Many councils switch the alert on for motor vehicles and keep bicycles as data for the mobility report only, because otherwise the control room gets alerts all morning. It is the same rule with a different recipient, and you can change it whenever you want.
See it for yourself
We won't just tell you. We'll show you.
It is a summary of the real screen: it plays by itself, step by step, and shows only the path of one case. The actual tool has far more than fits in here.
- The alert fires
- You open it
- You confirm or dismiss

Why did the line stop?
237 cases, and in every one of them IRIS raises an alert when something happens. You see each image as it is, and then with what it understands on top.
Car parks
How many bays are free right now?
15 cases: 9 raise an alert when something happens and 6 only measure. You see each image as it is, and then with what IRIS understands on top.
And the best part
You write the rule yourself, in your own words.Nobody has to program it for you.
“Tell me if a fire door is left open.” That is the whole rule. From then on it applies on every camera and at any hour, without ever touching it again.
Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.
We reply the same working day.
