The check-in line decides the review they are going to write

Late afternoon, the busiest hour for check-in. Three desk positions are staffed and there are guests registering at each one. Behind them, the brass rope guides a line that no longer fits the run: it has spilled out toward the staircase, suitcases on the floor. IRIS counts how many are waiting, how long they have been waiting, how many guests each position gets through and how many leave without checking in at all.

What IRIS understands

What it recognizes in this scene

  • line spilling beyond the rope
  • reception desk
  • staffed desk position
  • guests checking in at the desk
  • head of the line
  • middle stretch of the line
  • luggage on the floor
  • posts and rope guiding the line

What this camera gives back

Nobody gets an alert here. Here you get numbers.

  • 11 min+4 minWait from the back of the line
  • 18 / hGuests per desk per hour
  • 34 / hPeople arriving per hour
  • 3People who leave without checking in

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client’s measurement.

IRIS incorporates NeuralPax, a separate license approved by the Centro Español de Metrología — Spain’s national metrology institute — for people counting, occupancy and crowd-flow control. That the figure is right is guaranteed by a third party, not by us: the occupancy figure you show is measured and approved, not estimated. The approval covers that measurement — counting people — not the whole product. That approval is Spanish and it isn’t equivalent to any U.S. certification: we say so up front and not at the end.

How the counting works

Counting isn’t something you ask for. You draw a line.

There’s a line drawn along the edge of the desk: crossing it means you have been served. There’s another at the mouth of the lobby, which tells you how many people arrive and when. And there are two zones painted on the floor — the run of the queue and the strip in front of the desk — telling you how many people are in each and how long they have been there. Neither the lines nor the zones are asked for out loud: they’re drawn once on the image and stay there, so a Tuesday and a Saturday are measured the same way. Counting people is the only measurement we hold approval for from the Centro Español de Metrología, Spain’s national metrology institute, and it’s NeuralPax that does it, a separate license built into IRIS. We don’t claim accuracy. We certify it. The approval is Spanish. It doesn’t stand in for a U.S. certification, and we don’t present it as one.

And also, one rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

the wait in the reception line goes over ten minutes, or more people join than leave served

Then

  1. alert the front-office manager with the time, how many are waiting and how many desks are open
  2. save the video of the minute the line stopped moving
  3. leave the count for that slot in the daily report
The instruction that set it up«Tell me when the wait at reception goes over ten minutes, or when more people join line than leave it served.»

What changes

What changes for the manager and the front desk

With this figure the hotel manager decides three things that today are decided by eye: how many desks to open, when to open them and how many people to put on each. The wait at check-in is the first thing a review mentions, and of the whole stay it’s the one thing that can still be fixed the same day. Beyond that, someone who has stood twenty minutes with a suitcase in hand buys nothing else at the desk: every guest who gives up on the line is an upsell that never happens.

What people usually ask

Is the way IRIS counts people certified?

Yes. Counting people is the only measurement we hold approval for from the Centro Español de Metrología, Spain’s national metrology institute, and it’s NeuralPax that does it, a separate license built into IRIS. That’s why the number waiting and the number served stand up in front of whoever has to check them. We don’t claim accuracy: we certify it. Everything else IRIS does isn’t covered by that approval, and we don’t present it as if it were. It’s a Spanish approval. What crosses over isn’t the seal, it’s the method: the same line, in the same place, every day.

Does this measure how well my receptionists perform?

No, and it’s no good for that. IRIS counts how many people are waiting and how many desk positions are staffed. It does not know who is at each position, it does not recognize faces and it keeps no tally on anyone. The number exists so that another desk gets opened at seven in the evening, not so that someone gets singled out.

Where does this camera look, and where does it not?

It looks at the lobby and the desk, which are circulation and service areas. In a hotel there are places where you don’t put a camera, and we don’t go near them: guest rooms, bathrooms and locker rooms are out, and no IRIS feature needs to go in there. Reception, circulation, food and drink, outdoors and back of house; nothing else.

Simulation · how IRIS works

You set the rule once. IRIS applies it every time.

You will see a summary of the interface, played step by step and hands-free. Each round starts with another case. The complete tool doesn’t fit in a demo.

  1. The rule gets built
  2. It goes to every camera
  3. Published, it watches alone

And the best part

The door was left open at two.Finding out at nine is no use to anyone.

The video tells you at nine. IRIS says it at two, with the camera, the time and the images from that moment. The difference between the two is whether someone can go.

Tell us your problem and we’ll say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

A person answers, the same working day.
