It’s three minutes, and today nobody has them. Reception finds out about the group when it’s already standing at the desk, and by then it’s too late to open another position, get the keys ready or call the second bell attendant. How does IRIS know this is a group and not just people arriving?
From two things the camera can see: a large vehicle stopping on the entrance drive, and a number of people crossing the courtyard toward the door within the same minute. There’s no need to know who they’re or where they come from. The hotel writes the threshold at which it wants the alert, and below that IRIS bothers nobody.
And if the group arrives in cars rather than a bus?
It sees that too, because the rule doesn’t depend on the bus. What triggers the alert is how many people head for the entrance in a short space of time. A bus is the most common way for that to happen, not the only one, and the alert arrives just the same.
Does IRIS follow those people inside the hotel?
No. This camera looks outdoors and stops at the door. It does not follow anyone inside, it does not recognize faces and it does not know who is who. What it delivers is a number and a time: how many people are coming and when they reach the desk. And there are places IRIS never goes into: guest rooms, bathrooms and locker rooms are out, here and in any hotel.
