Someone on the lobby floor who is not getting up

Mid-afternoon in the lobby. On the floor, between the sofas and the bar, someone is lying down and not getting up. Beside them a glass is overturned, the drink spilled and some broken pieces on the marble. A member of staff has knelt down to help and another is on the phone two steps away. From the sofa, a guest watches. At the bar, the customers carry on and the barman keeps serving. IRIS does not know who that person is or what has happened to them: it sees a body on the floor that has not moved for almost a minute, and it raises the alert.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

a person has been lying on the floor of a public area for more than fifteen seconds

Then

  1. alerts the front desk and the security post at the same time, with the camera and the exact spot
  2. opens the video at the instant the person went down, so whoever arrives knows what happened before
  3. keeps the alert open until a person closes it by hand
The instruction that set it up«Tell me when somebody has been on the floor for more than fifteen seconds in any public area.»

What changes

What changes for the manager and the front desk

The only thing that can be improved from here is time: the seconds between someone going down and the first help arriving. In a busy lobby, a person on the floor is spotted late or by chance, because a sofa, a plant or somebody’s back is in the way. With the alert, whoever has to go knows where to go, and arrives with the video already open. And the limit is the usual one: IRIS sees what is inside the frame. If someone falls behind a sofa, it does not see them, which is why the framing is chosen with the floor manager, not from an office.

What people usually ask

Does IRIS know what has happened to that person?

No, and it does not say. It does not diagnose, it does not identify and it does not decide. It sees that somebody is on the floor and has not moved for a while. Who they are and what happened is for whoever arrives to say, and for the medical service if it is needed. What IRIS contributes is making that while shorter.

What if somebody crouches down or lies down on purpose?

It happens every day: someone ties a shoelace, a child throws themselves on the floor, a guest rummages in a case. That is why there is a delay before the alert, and why the alert arrives with the video: whoever gets it sees in two seconds whether to run or not. IRIS does not decide, it alerts. Detecting is not deciding.

Is this done in the rooms as well?

No, without exception. Rooms, bathrooms, changing rooms and any private area are outside the system: no camera goes there. This camera is in a public area, in plain view of everyone, and that is where it makes sense. In a room there is nothing to detect because there is nothing to look at.

Every simulation

Something has spilled

Tell me if there is liquid or foam outside its place and it is still there two minutes later.

And the best part

Recording is memory.Understanding is attention, and that is the part you had never bought.

The recording is still kept in case you need it. What is added is that those same images are understood as they arrive, not months later and not by hand.

Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

We reply the same working day.
