What changes for whoever runs security at the venue
When twenty thousand people leave at once, you do not need more screens: you need to know which gate is starting to block and how long you have to act. The head of security gets the real split of the exit, gate by gate and minute by minute, while it is happening. That is what tells him whether to open another route or move staff. IRIS predicts nothing and opens nothing: it puts the number in front of a person, and the person decides.
What people usually ask
Can IRIS say how long the venue will take to clear?
No. IRIS does not predict: it counts. It says how many people are crossing each gate per minute right now and how many are waiting in front of each one. With those two numbers, someone who has run exits for years knows whether it is going well or badly, and decides whether to open another route. The forecast belongs to the venue, not to the camera.
Do you need a camera on every gate?
Not always. One high camera that sees several gates at once already gives the split between them, which is exactly the missing figure. If a gate is hidden behind a structure, that one does need its own. What matters is not how many cameras there are: it is that every gate has its own per-minute count and that the counts can be compared.
Does it recognise the people leaving?
No. IRIS identifies nobody and compares faces with nothing. It counts people and measures where they go through. What the alert shows is that four hundred and ten people a minute are crossing that gate, never who any of them is. To balance an exit you do not need to know who is leaving, only how many and through which door.
