The trailer is at the wrong dock

Mid-morning on the dock apron. A blue tractor with a white trailer has come in crooked at the dock on the right, straddling the yellow lines, and the light for that door is red. Two doors along, the lights are green and the bay is free. A worker in a hi-vis vest is checking something on a tablet in front of the cab, and behind him the driver is on the phone. IRIS reads the vehicle code and sees it is not the one booked for that dock.

What IRIS understands

What it recognises in this scene

  • trailer straddling the bay lines
  • vehicle code on the front
  • dock light showing red
  • free dock with the light on green
  • worker checking the appointment on a tablet
  • driver on the phone

What this camera measures

An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.

  • 18 minTime the trailer has been at the dock
  • 2Free docks with a green light
  • 3Approach manoeuvres counted
  • 5People in shot
  • 09:26Time of the manoeuvre

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

the code of the vehicle at a dock does not match the appointment for that dock

Then

  1. alert the dock coordinator with the camera, the dock and the time
  2. save the image of the vehicle and of the code it read
  3. show the free dock that does match that appointment
The instruction that set it up«Tell me when a lorry parks up at a dock that is not the one for its appointment, and tell me which one it should be at.»

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

A lorry at the wrong dock goes unnoticed until the booked one arrives and finds the bay taken. That is when everyone loses half an hour: the driver waiting outside, the one who has to manoeuvre again, and the team that had already staged the goods at the other door. With the camera, the alert arrives while the trailer is still positioning, which is the only moment when fixing it costs a minute.

What people usually ask

Is reading a lorry's plate the same as identifying a person?

No. It means reading a label attached to a vehicle and comparing it with a booking. IRIS does not recognise faces and does not know who is at the wheel. It reads a printed code, the same way it would read a container number or a dock number, and says whether it matches what was expected. The driver is not part of the equation.

Does it work if the lorry turns up without a booking?

Yes, and it is a separate rule you can write: a vehicle positioned at a dock with no booking attached. What happens next — leaving it there, sending it to the waiting area, reassigning the dock — is up to the warehouse. IRIS alerts, saves the image and leaves the record; the operating decision belongs to the people who know the site.

What if the code is dirty or obscured?

Then it is not read, and the system says so instead of inventing a number. The alert still arrives as a vehicle at the dock with no readable code, with the image attached, so somebody can check it by hand. A value that cannot be shown is not published: it is marked as unread and the picture is left for a person to decide.

Simulation · how IRIS works

Watch what happens. Then watch what IRIS does with it.

Not a recorded video and not a drawing: it is a summary of the real tool, with a different case each time round. The whole tool does not fit in a box.

  1. The alert fires
  2. You open it
  3. You confirm or dismiss

And the best part

The cameras you bought years agostill hold up. What they were missing was not image quality.

It was someone to look. IRIS connects to the installation you already have — same equipment, same cabling — and those images go from being stored to being understood.

Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

We reply the same working day.
