Hands on a trailer's rear lock

Mid-afternoon in the yard, between the docks and the waiting area. A white trailer is standing away from the dock with both rear doors shut. A person in a dark hoodie and cap is up against the door, working the closure with a tool in hand. A few metres away a worker in a hi-vis vest walks past without looking, and a forklift moves a strapped pallet. IRIS sees hands on the closure and that this trailer has no loading job open.

What IRIS understands

What it recognises in this scene

  • rear door closure and seal
  • person at the rear door
  • rear doors of the trailer
  • forklift with a pallet in the yard
  • worker crossing the yard

What this camera measures

An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.

  • 2 min 40 sTime with hands on the closure
  • 48 minTime the trailer has stood in the yard
  • 4People in shot
  • 5Pallets waiting beside the trailer
  • 14:12Time of the contact

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

a person handles a trailer's rear closure with no loading job open

Then

  1. alert the yard supervisor with the camera, the trailer and the time
  2. save the video from the moment the person approaches the trailer
  3. flag the trailer so the closure is checked before it leaves
The instruction that set it up«Tell me when somebody touches the lock or the seal of a trailer that has no loading or unloading under way.»

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

A broken seal is usually found when the lorry reaches its destination, many hours and several stops later, and by then nobody can say where it happened. With the camera, the moment is fixed with a time, a trailer and a video. The yard supervisor hears about it while it is happening and can walk over and ask. And if it turns out to have been a legitimate check, that is recorded too: traceability cuts both ways.

What people usually ask

Can IRIS tell a broken seal from an intact one?

Only as far as it can be seen. From a general yard camera you can see a hand on the closure, a tool and the exact moment; at that distance you cannot confirm whether the seal is cut or read its number. The person who goes over confirms that. What IRIS adds is that somebody goes over today, instead of finding out tomorrow at the destination.

What about legitimate openings, such as an inspection?

They are recorded just the same, and that is a good thing. The rule is written per job: if that trailer has a loading task or an inspection open, there is no alert; if it does not, there is. What counts as normal is decided by the yard, not by the camera. The video of a legitimate opening protects whoever did it just as much as the other kind.

Can it read the seal number?

With a dedicated camera and a close frame, yes, a printed code can be read. With a general yard camera like this one, no. And it is worth being clear: reading a seal or container code means reading a label stuck to an object, not recognising a person. IRIS never does the second.

Demo · IRIS at work

A camera looks. IRIS understands what it sees.

An extract of the real screen, no voice-over and hands-free. Each round poses another situation. What sits behind it is a good deal bigger than what you see.

  1. You draw the line
  2. It counts by itself
  3. A number comes out

And the best part

You already record. The hard part was always watching it.

Years of video that only get opened once something has gone wrong. IRIS understands those same images as they arrive, so the answer no longer lives only in the archive.

Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

We reply the same working day.
