Six in the morning on the chilled dock. The cold store door is wide open and the fog is spilling out onto the apron. An operator stands waiting in the opening, arms out. What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

Nobody writes down how many minutes the door stayed open or how long a pallet sat outside the cold. It surfaces later, when the customer sends the goods back. With the camera, the cold chain manager has a figure per shift: minutes of open door, how many times it was opened and how long each pallet was outside. That is what changes working practice, and it can be shown with picture and time if anybody disputes it.

What people usually ask

Does IRIS measure the temperature of the fish?

No. That is what the probe is for. The camera measures time: how many minutes the door has been open and how long each pallet has been outside the controlled environment. They are two different figures and both are needed. If a temperature has to be proven, the probe record is what proves it; IRIS contributes the exact minute and the picture of what was standing outside.

Does it hold up as evidence in a claim from a customer?

Yes, as evidence of time and of what was there. It is recorded when the door was opened, how long it stayed open, how many pallets were waiting and when each one went in. It is a repeatable figure with video behind it. Deciding whether the product is still fit for sale is quality’s call, not the camera’s.

Do you need a sensor on the door?

No, though if one is already fitted it can be used. The camera sees the open door and the fog spilling out, and that is enough to start timing. What the picture adds is that it also sees what is waiting outside, which is exactly the part a door contact cannot count.
