What changes
What changes for whoever answers for the plant
The door stays open because people are in a hurry, not because anyone stopped caring. The problem is that nobody is keeping count: it opens, two trucks go through, six minutes go by and no record is left. IRIS times every opening and every pallet waiting outside, and warns when it goes past the limit the plant has set. That saves cold, keeps ice off the evaporator and, above all, leaves a record of what happened and when. Product temperature still comes from the probe: IRIS supplies the clock and the picture.
What people usually ask
Does IRIS measure the product temperature?
No. IRIS measures time: how long the door has been open and how long a pallet has been out of the cold. Product temperature comes from the probes and the data loggers, and IRIS does not go near that. What it adds is the piece the probes are missing: what was happening in that minute and why the reading rose. A thermal camera does read the heat visible on the outside of equipment, but that is a different installation and a different conversation.
How long is too long?
The plant decides, not IRIS. The threshold is written into the rule: three minutes, five, whatever the procedure sets for each cold store and each product. You also decide which time bands it applies to, because a scheduled unload is not the same as a door left open mid-afternoon. IRIS does not set the criterion: it applies it, times it and logs it.
Is it also useful for seeing how many times the door opens in a day?
Yes. Every opening is counted with its time and its duration, and that can be read by shift, by day or by season. It is a repeatable measurement: what is visible gets counted, the same way every time. That is how you find out whether the problem is a door being left open or a workflow that forces it open twenty times an hour — two different problems, fixed in different ways.
