A product that goes into the wrong bay is not lost: it takes half a day to find, and meanwhile an order runs late. The alert arrives when the slab has just taken the turnout, still on the table, with the picture of the plate and the time. The dispatch supervisor decides whether to recover it there and then or let it run. And at the end of the shift there is a count of how many products went the wrong way, and at which point.

How does the camera know which bay that slab was supposed to go to?
From the plate. IRIS reads the identification plate fitted to the product and compares it with the destination the plant has assigned. The camera does not invent the route: the route lives in the production system. What IRIS adds is seeing that the physical product went somewhere else, with the picture and the minute it happened. When the paperwork and the steel disagree, it flags it.
What if the plate is dirty, turned round or torn off?
Then it cannot be read, and IRIS says so. A product without a legible plate is recorded as exactly that, not as compliant. And that is already useful: if the same line produces unreadable plates every day, the problem is how they are fitted, and there is a dated, timed list to prove it. IRIS does not guess what it cannot see, and it should not.
Does this replace the production tracking system?
No. IRIS works alongside it. The production system knows the heat, the grade and the customer; the camera sees the real product, where it is and where it went. When the two disagree, that gap is what triggers. Without the picture, the gap turns up when the truck is being loaded, and by then nobody can fix it within the shift.
