What changes for whoever answers for the plant
What changes is not finding out afterwards. It is that the alert arrives while the coil is still in the air. The crane operator and the bay supervisor get it with the camera, the time and the picture, and there is still room to manoeuvre. At the end of the shift there is also a count: how many times the aisle was crossed with a load and people underneath, and at which point. That is what you need in order to change the crane route or the hour it runs.
What people usually ask
Can IRIS stop the overhead crane if someone is underneath?
No. IRIS does not act on any machine: it alerts. It sends the alert to the crane operator and the bay supervisor with the camera, the time and the picture, and a person decides whether to stop the lift. What it adds is when that alert arrives: while the coil is still in the air, not once it has already gone over. In a coil bay, that difference is the whole difference.
Does it recognise the person who walked underneath?
No. IRIS does not identify anyone and does not compare faces against any database. It detects a situation: there is a person under a suspended load. The record gives the camera, the time and the point in the aisle, not who was there. The shift supervisor knows that, and is the one who has to talk to that person.
How does the camera know where the load is going to pass?
The plant tells it. The aisle the overhead crane works along is drawn on the image, and IRIS looks for a person inside that aisle while a load is hanging above. The rule does not come preset: which aisle, which loads and at what hours count as an alert is decided by the bay, and it changes when the operation changes.
