The tanker has pulled in until it is right against the process vessel

Mid-afternoon on the process road. A tanker truck has come down the roadway and pulled forward until it is right against the process vessel on the left, well inside the yellow band painted on the ground. The driver is still in the cab. Six workers in helmets and vests raise their hands to stop it, from the front and from the sides. Behind it, a white pickup carries extinguishers and equipment. The camera sees the vehicle, the paint on the ground and the gap between the two.

What IRIS understands

What it recognises in this scene

  • tanker truck
  • process vessel
  • workers signalling stop
  • service pickup
  • firefighting equipment cabinet

What this camera measures

An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.

  • 2 mMetres to the vessel
  • 1 min 45 sTime inside the band
  • 6Workers signalling
  • 2Vehicles on the road
  • 16:12Time of the alert

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

a vehicle crosses the painted band around the process vessel or stops on the emergency route

Then

  1. open the alert with the camera, the time and the video of the manoeuvre
  2. notify the control room and the loading supervisor
  3. keep the video clip for the shift report
The instruction that set it up«Tell me if a truck comes inside the yellow band around the process vessel or blocks the emergency route.»

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

A truck up against a piece of process equipment is two problems at once: it can hit the equipment and it blocks the way for emergency crews. Here the alert goes out while the truck is still moving, with the camera, the time and the video, and the control room can see how it got in. IRIS identifies nobody: it sees a vehicle that has crossed a painted boundary, not who is inside. And it neither stops the truck nor lowers a barrier: getting it out of there is decided by a person.

What people usually ask

Does IRIS measure the real distance between the truck and the equipment?

It measures against what is painted on the ground. The yellow band and the road lines are the reference, and the camera sees whether the truck has crossed them and by how much. This is not a laser rangefinder: it is a reading against a physical mark that is already there. For what matters here, inside or outside, that is enough.

Does it also detect an emergency exit being blocked?

Yes. It is the same idea: the passage that must stay clear is drawn on the image, and the alert fires when something stops on it. It works for an evacuation route, a hydrant and the fire brigade access. What gets drawn, and how long is tolerated, is decided by the plant.

Can IRIS stop the vehicle or close the barrier?

No. IRIS alerts, it does not act. It does not lower a barrier, it does not switch a traffic light and it does not send messages to the truck. It puts the camera, the time and the video of the moment the truck crossed the line in front of whoever decides. Ordering the truck out is a person’s call.

See it for yourself

No extra alarms here. Just what needs looking at.

Not a recorded video, not an explanatory drawing: a summary of the real screen, with a different case every time it starts. There is a lot more behind it.

  1. The alert fires
  2. It lands in the tray
  3. You open it
  4. You confirm or dismiss

And the best part

Ten cameras or four thousand:not one of them goes unwatched.

The day IRIS starts, they all start: the ten in a school or the four thousand in a whole network. And it only raises its hand when the thing you asked for happens.

Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

We reply the same working day.
