What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

A particle inside an injectable vial is grounds for rejection, and finding it depends on somebody looking at exactly the right second. Visual inspection is tiring and the shift is long. IRIS looks at every vial with the same attention and alerts while the vial is going past, with its image and its time. That way the unit is pulled and its neighbours checked, instead of finding out once the batch is palletised.

What people usually ask

Does IRIS detect microbiological contamination?

No. A camera sees what is visible: a fibre, a flake, a dark fragment inside the liquid. Contamination by microorganisms cannot be seen, it is grown in the laboratory. IRIS alerts on the visible particle, leaves the image and the time, and the rest of the way is covered by analysis. They are different things and it pays not to mix them up.

Does IRIS see any particle, however small?

No. It sees the one that stands out in the backlit image, and that depends on size, colour, container and lighting. Smaller particles need dedicated inspection equipment. That is why IRIS is installed alongside the inspection and not in its place: it adds a constant eye on what is genuinely visible.

Does the alert help pull the affected vial?

Yes. IRIS marks the exact time and the position of the vial in the sequence, and keeps its picture. With that, the team locates the unit and decides what to do with the ones next to it, working from evidence that can be replayed and shown days later, not from what someone thinks they remember.
