A dark speck floating inside a filled vial

Visual inspection station at the end of the filling line. Vials pass one by one in front of a lit white screen inside the cabinet. In one of them a dark speck can be seen inside the liquid, halfway up. On the left, an operator in gown, hairnet, mask and gloves has picked another vial off the belt and is holding it against the light. Behind, the line keeps carrying vials toward the outfeed curve.

What IRIS understands

What it recognizes in this scene

  • vial with a visible particle
  • visual inspection cabinet
  • vial checked against the light
  • inspection operator
  • outfeed tray of vials

What this camera measures

An alert says something’s happening. The reading says how much.

  • 1vials flagged on this pass
  • 318vials inspected in the hour
  • 15 stime since the alert
  • 1people at the station
  • 09:34time of the alert

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client’s measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

a vial goes through the inspection station with a visible particle inside the liquid

Then

  1. alerts the inspector at the station and quality
  2. saves the picture of the vial and the video of its pass
  3. logs the time and the position of the vial in the sequence
The instruction that set it up«Alert me if a vial goes through the inspection with something dark floating inside.»

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

An hour and a half into the shift in the visual inspection booth, and the vials go past the screen one by one. A particle inside an injectable vial is grounds for rejection, and finding it depends on somebody looking at exactly the right second. Eyes get tired and the shift is long. IRIS looks at every vial with the same attention and alerts while the vial is going past, with its image and its time. That way the unit is set aside and the ones around it are checked, instead of finding out with the batch already palletized.

What people usually ask

Does IRIS detect microbiological contamination?

No. A camera sees what’s visible: a fiber, a flake, a dark fragment inside the liquid. Contamination by microorganisms can’t be seen, it’s grown in the laboratory. IRIS alerts on the visible particle, leaves the image and the time, and the rest of the way is covered by analysis. They are different things and it pays not to mix them up.

Does IRIS see any particle, however small?

No. It sees the one that stands out in the backlit image, and that depends on size, color, container and lighting. Smaller particles need dedicated inspection equipment. That’s why IRIS is installed alongside the inspection and not in its place: it adds a constant eye on what’s genuinely visible.

Does the alert help pull the affected vial?

Yes. IRIS marks the exact time and the position of the vial in the sequence, and keeps its picture. With that, the team locates the unit and decides what to do with the ones next to it, working from evidence that can be replayed and shown days later, not from what someone thinks they remember.

Simulation · how IRIS works

This isn’t a video. It’s a slice of the real screen.

A summary of the real interface, played hands-free. You see one case from start to finish; what you don’t see are the other screens, and there are many.

  1. The hour, as a grid
  2. You look where it’s dark
  3. You jump to that minute

And the best part

You decide the rule onceand it’s applied the same way every time.

At three in the morning it means what it means at noon, on camera one and on camera four thousand. It doesn’t depend on who’s on shift, or how tired they are.

Tell us your problem and we’ll say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

A person answers, the same working day.
