CAM-380

A loaded truck leaves by a way that is not a way out

Early afternoon at the stockpile yard. One white truck is on the weighbridge and another waits its turn. On the right, a red truck loaded with concentrate is heading down a dirt track that starts beside the no-exit sign and skirts the fence downhill. It is still raising dust. Nobody has logged that trip. IRIS sees a loaded truck crossing a line that nothing is supposed to cross.

What IRIS understands

What it recognises in this scene

  • loaded truck leaving by the track
  • no-exit sign
  • concentrate stockpile
  • weighbridge with a truck on it
  • operator at the access control

What this camera measures

An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.

  • 13:26Time of the exit
  • 2Exits by that track today
  • 14Trucks weighed this shift
  • 2Trucks waiting at the weighbridge
  • 40 sTime since it passed the sign

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

a loaded vehicle leaves the stockpile by the unauthorized track

Then

  1. alert the weighbridge office with the camera, the time and the direction of travel
  2. save the video from the truck being loaded to the moment it passes the sign
  3. log the movement in the shift exit report with its time
The instruction that set it up«Tell me if a loaded truck leaves the stockpile by the lower track instead of going over the weighbridge.»

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

Concentrate is the most valuable thing that leaves a mine, and the gap shows up weeks later, when tonnes dispatched do not match tonnes received. By then there is no footage left to look at. With the camera, the operations manager gets the alert while the truck is still on the track: the time, the plate if it can be read, video of the truck leaving and of the stockpile it came from. The gap stops being a number and becomes a specific minute.

What people usually ask

Does IRIS accuse anyone of stealing?

No. IRIS does not identify anyone and does not recognize faces. What it sees is a situation: a loaded vehicle has left the stockpile by a route the mine has marked as not authorized. That may be theft, it may be a new driver taking a wrong turn, or it may be a detour agreed over the radio that nobody wrote down. Who was inside and what happened is decided by a person with the video in front of them.

Does the camera know how much material was taken?

No, and that is worth saying plainly. A camera counts trucks, times exits and sees whether a body is loaded or empty. Tonnage comes from the weighbridge, and the grade of the ore comes from the laboratory. What the image adds is the trip that never crossed the weighbridge: the time, the track it took and the stockpile it left from. With that, a weight discrepancy finally has a picture beside it.

Can IRIS lower the barrier or stop the truck?

No. IRIS does not act: it alerts. It sends the alert to whoever the mine has named, the weighbridge office, the operations manager, the gatehouse, with the camera, the time and the video. Lowering a barrier, calling on the radio or opening a report is a person’s decision. The rules are written by the mine too: which tracks are exits and which are not, and from what hour, is set by the operation, not by the system.

And the best part

What happens in the small hoursdoes not have to wait for the morning report.

IRIS understands it there and then and tells whoever is on call, with the camera and the time. The next day there is nothing to reconstruct: it is already written down.

Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

We reply the same working day.
