What changes
What changes for whoever answers for the plant
A load of ore taken to the dump is a haul paid for twice and a load that never comes back: buried under the waste of the rest of the shift. The other way round is worse, because waste rock enters the plant and dirties the process. With the camera, the haul road supervisor knows while the dumper is still climbing: the vehicle, the time and the branch it took. Turning round costs five minutes.

How does IRIS know the body is carrying ore and not waste?
By appearance and by route. IRIS sees the colour, the shape and the size of the rock showing above the body, and it sees where that truck loaded: at the ore face or at the waste face. The two together are enough to flag a wrong turn. What the camera never tells you is the grade of that load, how much metal it holds, because that is measured in the laboratory from a sample.
Can it also count trips, not just raise alerts?
Yes. The same camera can do two different jobs, and they are not set up the same way. Alerting on a wrong turn is asked for in a sentence. Counting trips down each branch is set up by drawing a line on the image, and that number comes out by hour, by shift and by day, always the same way, always repeatable. Asking is for finding; counting is for measuring. A line cannot be described in a sentence: it has to be drawn.
And if the mine changes destinations from one day to the next?
You change the rule and carry on. The branches, the materials and the destination each one is due are written by the mine, not by the system. In a working pit this changes with the weekly plan: today the rock from this bench goes to the plant, next month it goes to waste. The camera checks what it has been told today, and when the plan changes, the sentence changes. Nothing else has to be touched.
