CAM-552

The cabinet was left open and nobody is standing at it

Cold aisle, mid-afternoon. One cabinet has its mesh door swung wide open, equipment and cabling in plain view. There is nobody in front of it: the only person in the frame is walking away down the far end of the aisle. Somebody finished the job, closed the work order and left without closing the door. It has been open for twenty-two minutes.

What IRIS understands

What it recognises in this scene

  • cabinet door open
  • cabinet with equipment in view
  • loose cabling
  • person walking away
  • row of closed cabinets
  • perforated floor tiles
  • overhead cable trays
  • cabinets in the facing row

What this camera measures

An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.

  • 22 minTime the door has been open
  • 0People at the cabinet
  • 6 minTime since the last person left
  • 17:04Time of the alert
  • 16:41:50Video saved from

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

a cabinet has been open for more than two minutes with nobody in front of it

Then

  1. alert the hall supervisor with the aisle, the cabinet and how long it has been open
  2. save the video of the moment it was left unattended
  3. close the alert only when the door is shut again
The instruction that set it up«Tell me if a cabinet is left open with nobody working at it.»

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for physical security on site

An open cabinet is not a theft, it is an oversight, and that is why it happens so often. But while it is open, anyone walking past can touch what is inside, cold air escapes where it should not, and if the site hosts several customers there is a third party’s equipment on display. Today this is found on the next round, or the next day. IRIS says it after two minutes, and says which one: the aisle and the cabinet. Closing it takes five seconds if somebody hears about it in time.

What people usually ask

Does IRIS know whether something is missing from the cabinet?

No. The camera sees a door open and sees that nobody is in front of it. What is inside, what was there before and whether a part is missing, it does not know and never will. What it adds is the exact minute it was left open and the video of everything that has passed in front of it since. If one day somebody has to reconstruct what happened, that is precisely the piece that is missing today.

Isn’t the cabinet lock enough?

The lock tells you whether it was opened with permission, not whether it was closed again. And in practice the cabinet is opened at the start of the job and stays that way until somebody remembers. The camera looks at the door, not the lock: as long as the door is open, the fact is still live. They are two different things, and both are needed.

What if somebody is working and just crouches down for a second?

Then there is no alert. The rule is not «door open», it is «door open and nobody in front of it for a while». The site sets the while, which is why the technician who goes off for a tool does not trigger an alert every time. The alert appears when the cabinet has really been left on its own, which is when it matters.

See it for yourself

No extra alarms here. Just what needs looking at.

Not a recorded video, not an explanatory drawing: a summary of the real screen, with a different case every time it starts. There is a lot more behind it.

  1. It lands in the tray
  2. You open it
  3. You confirm or dismiss

And the best part

Nothing to drill, nothing to rip out:the cameras already on your walls can start understanding.

No building work, no new cabling, no swapping equipment. It connects to what is already there, and what is already there starts telling you what it sees.

Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

We reply the same working day.
