Both of them inside the airlock, inner door still open
The access airlock is built to take one person at a time: one door closes before the other opens. In the picture there are two people inside the same space and the inner door is still open. One of them is still holding a badge. The guard is at his station, with his back turned. Outside, a third person crosses the lobby. IRIS counts how many bodies are inside the airlock and how long the door has been open.

What this camera measures
An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.
- 2People inside the airlock
- 1People the cycle allows
- 4 sSeconds with the inner door open
- 19 sLength of the cycle

The rule
You decide once. IRIS applies it always.
If
there are two or more people inside the airlock at once
Then
- alert the guard station with the airlock, the time and how many are inside
- save the video of the whole cycle, from the moment the first door opened
- add the crossing to the shift tally for the monthly report
The instruction that set it up«Tell me if there is more than one person inside the airlock at the same time.»
What changes
What changes for whoever answers for physical security on site
The airlock is the expensive part of the entrance, and it is worth little if people use it two at a time. The trouble is that nobody sees it: the cycle lasts twenty seconds and the guard is looking at something else. IRIS puts a number where today there is none: how many times a month the airlock is crossed with two people inside. With that number, the security manager decides whether to remind people of the procedure or whether the door itself is out of adjustment. And on audit day, the figure is written down.
What people usually ask
Shouldn’t the airlock itself prevent this?
Many try, and some succeed. But an airlock can drift out of adjustment, it can be in maintenance mode, or it can have a door that is slow to close. When that happens, today nobody finds out. The camera looks at the space from outside and counts bodies: if there are two where one fits, it says so, whatever the reason. And it leaves the video of the cycle, which is what tells you whether it was the door or somebody in a hurry.
Does IRIS know how many people were authorised to go through?
No. The camera counts how many people are inside. How many were authorised belongs to access control. They are two different pieces of data and you need both: on their own they say nothing, together you can see at a glance whether the cycle was correct. That is the honest way to put it, and it is the version that holds up in front of an auditor.
Doesn’t this make reception an uncomfortable place?
No, because the alert does not go to the door: it goes to the guard station and into the report. Nobody gets locked in, nobody is told off in front of a visitor and nothing is blocked. The point is that the procedure is followed, and that it can be shown to have been followed — not to make life awkward for people coming in to work.

Who is watching the cameras of a whole branch network?
13 cases: 12 raise an alert when something happens and 1 only measure. You see each image as it is, and then with what IRIS understands on top.

How long does it take to find a hand played two hours ago?
12 cases: 9 raise an alert when something happens and 3 only measure. You see each image as it is, and then with what IRIS understands on top.
And the best part
By the eighth hour of a shiftnobody watches the way they did in the first. That is not a flaw.
It is being human. A camera has no eighth hour: at four in the morning it understands what it understood at noon, and it speaks up just the same.
Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.
We reply the same working day.
