What changes
What changes for whoever runs security at the venue
Among twenty thousand people, somebody on the ground disappears. Two rows can see them and nobody else, and the call arrives when someone with a phone finds the right number. With the camera, the medical team gets the exact spot, the time the person went down and a live image before they set off. What is gained is minutes, and in a cardiac arrest minutes are the only thing there is to gain.
What people usually ask
Does IRIS say what is wrong with the person?
No. IRIS diagnoses nothing and is not going to. What it sees is that there is a person lying still in a place where nobody lies down, and how long they have been like that. Who decides what is wrong and what to do is the venue’s medical team, which gets there sooner because it knows where to go. The camera contributes the place and the exact minute, not a medical opinion.
And what if somebody is just sitting on the floor resting?
Yes, there can be alerts that turn out to be nothing, and it is better said plainly. IRIS tells a still, lying posture from someone sitting, but a packed corridor is full of odd postures. That is why the alert goes to a person, with live video: checking takes ten seconds. One alert too many costs ten seconds; one alert too few costs a great deal more. The rule is written by the venue and can be tuned zone by zone.
Does IRIS recognise the person who has collapsed?
No. IRIS does not recognise faces, does not compare them with anything and keeps nobody’s identity. For what it does here it does not need to: identity changes nothing about what to do with someone who has not moved for a minute in a corridor. What it delivers is a place, a minute and a live image. Who that person is, is found out, if needed, by whoever attends to them.
