There is liquid spilled across the bottom of the tray

Visual inspection station, mid-afternoon. On the steel table there are three trays of glass vials with blue caps. In the middle one a pool has formed: liquid has come out of one of the vials and spread across the bottom of the tray. An operator has lifted another vial with both hands and is holding it up to the light. Across the table a colleague in gown and hood writes the check down on a clipboard. IRIS sees liquid where the tray should be dry.

What IRIS understands

What it recognises in this scene

  • liquid spilled in the tray
  • vial standing in the pool
  • inspection tray
  • operator holding a vial up to the light
  • operator writing down the check

What this camera measures

An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.

  • 1Vials standing in the pool
  • 26Vials on the table
  • 3Trays in shot
  • 1 min 05 sTime since the liquid appeared
  • 13:24Time of the alert

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

liquid pools in the bottom of a vial tray

Then

  1. alert the room supervisor with the camera, the time and the image of the tray
  2. save the video from the moment the tray reached the table
  3. leave the tray flagged in the record for the batch review
The instruction that set it up«Tell me if liquid shows up in the bottom of a vial tray, and show me which tray it is.»

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

A leaking vial shows up on no counter: it weighs almost the same and it is still standing. It is discovered when somebody notices a wet tray, and sometimes that happens two stations later. With the camera the room supervisor gets the alert with the time, the flagged tray and the video. They know what to set aside and from which minute to review, instead of doubting the whole batch.

What people usually ask

Can IRIS tell a leak from cleaning water?

Not always, and that is why the alert is an alert and not a verdict. The camera sees liquid where the tray should be dry, and hands over the image and the time so a person can look. Whether it is condensation, cleaning water or product that has escaped is decided by whoever checks. What the room gains is finding out now instead of two stations later.

Does it detect a microcrack in the glass?

A crack is detected if it is visible in the image; a microcrack, normally not. What the camera does see is the consequence: the wet vial, the pool in the bottom of the tray, the level that has dropped compared with the ones next to it. Proving container integrity is a laboratory test, and a camera does not reach that far.

Does it serve as evidence for the batch investigation?

It serves as image evidence, with its camera, its time and its video. It does not replace the quality file or the tests: it goes with them. The practical gain is that the investigation stops resting on what somebody remembers of the shift and starts resting on what can be seen and the exact minute it happened.

Simulation · how IRIS works

Everything comes in. Only what matters gets through.

This sums up what IRIS does with one alert, from the moment it appears until it is closed. The real screen holds far more; this is the main thread.

  1. Checks the whole system
  2. Flags what is failing
  3. Puts it on one screen

And the best part

The rule does not decide anything. It just never forgets, and it tells the person who decides.

You write once what needs watching, and it holds at three in the morning just as at noon. What to do with the alert is still a person’s decision.

Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

We reply the same working day.
