A container that touches the floor stops being a clean container. Today, if nobody sees it, there is no record, and the next day the discussion runs on memory and one word against another. Does IRIS know whether the container went back onto the line?
Yes, if it happens in front of the camera. IRIS follows the container for as long as it can see it: it sees it fall, sees it on the floor and sees whether somebody puts it back on the belt within the frame. Anything that leaves the field of view stops being tracked, and the alert says so in those words. That is why the camera should cover the whole stretch between the floor and the belt, not just the spot where things drop.
Is this used to single out the person who picks the container up?
No. IRIS does not identify anyone: it does not recognise faces, does not compare them with anything and does not store who the person is. What it detects is a situation: a container has touched the floor, and that container either does or does not go back onto the belt. Picking it up is exactly the right thing to do; what the plant wants to know is whether it is put back. What happens to the container and the batch is the plant's decision, not the camera's.
Can IRIS say whether the product has been contaminated?
No. A camera sees that the container touched the floor; it does not see a bacterium or a chemical residue. That takes a laboratory test, with its sample and its result. What IRIS contributes is the fact, the exact minute and the image, so that whoever decides knows there is something to review instead of depending on somebody remembering. IRIS works alongside the quality systems, not in their place.
