Cloud in the chiller plant room and a person on the floor

Refrigeration compressor room. The pipes on the rack are covered in frost and icicles, and out of one side comes a thick white cloud that already fills half the room. Beside the yellow floor line a worker is lying on his back, with pieces of ice fallen around him. Four others are getting out: one is already in the doorway at the back. IRIS sees the cloud, the frost, the person down and who has left. It does not measure ammonia.

What IRIS understands

What it recognises in this scene

  • person on the floor
  • white cloud
  • frost on the pipes
  • compressor rack
  • person evacuating
  • person in the doorway

What this camera measures

An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.

  • 40 sCloud visible for
  • 1People on the floor
  • 4People still inside
  • 1People already at the door
  • 2Fans in view
  • 04:50Time of the alert

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

a cloud or unusual frost appears in the plant room, or a person is still inside after the evacuation has been called

Then

  1. alert the shift manager and the emergency team with the camera and the spot in the room
  2. say how many people are visible inside, how many have got out and whether any of them is on the floor
  3. keep the video from before the cloud appeared and log the time
The instruction that set it up«Tell me if a cloud comes out in the plant room, if somebody is on the floor, or if anybody is left inside during an evacuation.»

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

A leak in an ammonia plant room is decided in minutes, and it nearly always happens in the small hours with the room empty. The gas detector raises the alarm, but it does not say whether anybody is still inside or where. IRIS brings exactly that: there is a person on the floor, next to the compressors, and of the five who were there four have got out. With that sentence and the video, whoever runs the evacuation knows who they are going in for and which way.

What people usually ask

Does IRIS measure the ammonia concentration?

No, and this is the most important point about this camera. IRIS does not measure gas. It sees what is visible: a white cloud, frost where there should be none, a person on the floor, and who has got out and who has not. The concentration is confirmed by the room's gas detector, and with no gas detector there is no gas reading. Both are needed: the detector says there is a leak, and the camera says where it is and who is still inside.

What is the camera for if the room already has gas detectors?

To know who you are going in for. A detector raises one alarm for the whole room; it does not say whether anybody is still inside, or where, or whether they are standing or on the floor. IRIS counts the people it can see, flags the one who is not moving and shows the video of the moment the cloud started. That is what decides where the emergency team goes in and with what. The detector and the camera do not compete: they complete each other.

Does IRIS order the evacuation or start the ventilation?

No. IRIS does not act: it triggers no sirens, opens no extractors and stops no compressor. It alerts the people who have to decide, with the camera, the minute and the video. The manoeuvre is run by the plant's emergency plan, and the safety systems in the room stay in charge. All IRIS adds is that somebody finds out sooner, with the picture in front of them.

See it for yourself

We won't just tell you. We'll show you.

It is a summary of the real screen: it plays by itself, step by step, and shows only the path of one case. The actual tool has far more than fits in here.

  1. You draw the line
  2. It counts by itself
  3. A number comes out

And the best part

Adding a camera costs what it costs;adding someone to watch it costs every single month.

Past a certain number, almost nobody is watching anything. IRIS watches them all at once and only calls you when something you said mattered happens in one of them.

Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

We reply the same working day.
