Into the dosing room without the area kit

Mid-afternoon, at the door of the chemical dosing room. A person in street clothes — t-shirt, jeans, no hard hat, no vest, no goggles — steps over the threshold and inside. An operator in a white hard hat and hi-vis vest raises a hand to stop them. Beyond the fence stand the flammables cabinet, the drums and the totes; on the ground, the painted band that marks where the area begins. IRIS sees that somebody has gone in without the area kit, not who they are.

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

In a dosing room you do not have to touch anything for it to end badly: being inside when a valve opens is enough. Normally nobody finds out until somebody mentions it. With the camera, the alert arrives while the person is still crossing the doorway, with the picture and the time, and the supervisor decides what to do. Afterwards the count remains: how many entries there were at that door and how many without the area kit.

What people usually ask

Does IRIS know who the person going in is?

No. IRIS does not recognise faces and does not match anyone against a staff list. It sees a situation: somebody has crossed the doorway with no hard hat, no vest and no goggles, and that is what it reports, with the camera and the time. Who it was comes from the plant access control or from whoever reviews the video. The camera supplies the exact moment, not an identity.

Can the alert be tied to the access control system?

Yes, and that is the usual arrangement. Access control knows which badges went through; the camera knows what is visible at the door. Put together, a normal entry is told apart from one nobody registered. IRIS supplies the visual part — what was worn, at what time, at which door — and the access system supplies its own. IRIS works alongside those systems, not instead of them.

Can the same camera count the entries?

Yes, but not with the same rule. Alerting and counting are not set up the same way: an alert is asked for in a sentence, while counting is drawn as a line or an area on the picture. A line cannot be described in words, it has to be drawn. That is why the number of entries at that door is repeatable and can be audited, while the alert answers a condition.
