CAM-307

The bund is full to the brim and already spilling over

Midday in the drum yard. The yellow bund is full of dark liquid right up to the rim: the four IBCs and the six blue drums have their bases under water. At the near corner the liquid is falling outside and spreading across the concrete towards the drain grating. An operator in a white helmet watches from the aisle without stepping in. On the ground there is an absorbent sock, still not laid out. IRIS reads the level against the yellow rim and sees where the puddle is heading.

What IRIS understands

What it recognises in this scene

  • bund full to the rim
  • liquid falling over the corner
  • puddle spreading across the concrete
  • drain grating
  • absorbent sock not laid out

What this camera measures

An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.

  • 9 minTime since the bund reached the rim
  • 4IBCs inside the bund
  • 6Drums inside the bund
  • 3People in the area
  • 12:18Time of the alert

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

the liquid in a bund reaches the rim or starts running outside

Then

  1. alert the environment manager with the camera, the bund and the time
  2. save the video from the moment the level started rising
  3. log the incident with the bund, the time and where the puddle was heading
The instruction that set it up«Tell me if the level in a bund reaches the rim, or if liquid starts running outside towards a drain.»

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

A full bund stops being a barrier: whatever spills after that goes straight onto the concrete, and from the concrete into the network. By the time somebody sees it, the puddle is already outside. With the camera, the environment manager finds out while the level is rising and before it reaches the grating. And there is video with a timestamp, which is exactly what the environmental incident log asks for when it is time to explain what happened and when.

What people usually ask

Does the camera know what liquid is in the bund?

No. IRIS sees that there is liquid, how far up the yellow rim it comes and where it is escaping. What it is — rainwater, spilled product or a mix of the two — comes from whoever samples it. And that difference matters: a bund full of water gets emptied, one with product is handled as waste. The camera adds the minute, the picture and where the puddle was heading, which is what you need in order to act.

Can it measure how many litres are in there?

Not in litres. A camera reads the level against a physical reference it can see: the rim of the bund, a painted mark, the base of a drum. That gives a reliable “it has reached the rim” alert, which is what you need to react in time. An exact volume comes from a level probe or from the bund calculation, not from the picture. IRIS counts what is visible and says it with the time.

Is it any use if the bund has filled up with rainwater?

Yes, and in practice that is the most common case. A bund full of water no longer retains anything, so the alert is just as valid. Plants usually write two rules: one for a high level, dealt with within the shift, and one for liquid running outside, which is urgent. What counts as urgent is decided by the plant, not by the camera: IRIS runs the rule and provides the picture.

Simulation · how IRIS works

Everything comes in. Only what matters gets through.

This sums up what IRIS does with one alert, from the moment it appears until it is closed. The real screen holds far more; this is the main thread.

  1. Four cameras at once
  2. Each understands its own view
  3. The numbers climb by themselves

And the best part

You write the rule yourself, in your own words.Nobody has to program it for you.

“Tell me if a fire door is left open.” That is the whole rule. From then on it applies on every camera and at any hour, without ever touching it again.

Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

We reply the same working day.
