What changes
What changes for the floor manager and for compliance
A fall by the entrance and an open equipment cabinet have nothing in common — except one thing: both are spotted by looking, and at three in the morning nobody is looking at both areas at once. The fall ends up in a report and sometimes in a claim, and what decides that claim is the time the person was attended to. The open cabinet is the first piece of almost any camera problem: if the equipment stops recording, nothing else matters. And here is the limit, which in this sector is a legal one and not a matter of opinion: minors and self-exclusion can only be handled where there is a legal basis and an authorised identification system, and that system is not IRIS. IRIS does no biometrics and identifies nobody. Without identifying anyone, what it can measure is how long a gaming session lasts, fights, falls, entries into restricted areas and tampering with cameras.
What people usually ask
Does IRIS detect a minor or a self-excluded person coming in?
No, and that is worth saying plainly. Minors and self-exclusion can only be handled where there is a legal basis and an authorised identification system, and that system is not IRIS: IRIS does no biometrics, does not recognise faces and identifies nobody. Age and the self-exclusion register are checked by the casino’s access control, with the document and the rules that apply to it. IRIS works alongside, without identifying.
So what can IRIS measure on the floor without identifying anybody?
Rather more than it sounds. How long a gaming position has been occupied, whether there is physical contact between people, whether somebody has fallen or has been down for a while, whether somebody enters a restricted area and whether somebody tampers with or covers a camera. All of that is situations, not persons: it can be seen without knowing who anybody is, and it is what actually takes up a floor manager’s night.
Why raise an alert for an open equipment cabinet?
Because if the equipment stops recording, everything else stops being any use. An open cabinet is nearly always maintenance, which is why the alert accuses nobody: it says somebody is standing at a piece of equipment, and at what time. If it was scheduled, it is closed in a second. If it was not, you know the same night, with the video — instead of finding out when somebody asks for a recording that no longer exists.
