Load spilled in the tunnel
A flatbed truck has ended up across the left-hand lane of the tunnel and has lost its load: long pipes, pallets and cardboard boxes strewn over two lanes. A person is standing on the truck bed. Behind it vehicles have already stopped, and traffic is still going by in the right-hand lane.

What IRIS understands
What it recognizes in this scene
- flatbed truck
- load on the roadway
- loose pipes
- person on the truck bed
- stopped vehicles
What this camera measures
An alert says something’s happening. The reading says how much.
- 1 minOn the roadway for
- 2 / 3Lanes with load on them
- 3Vehicles stopped
- 1People out of the cab
- 14Items counted on the roadway
- 20:05Time of the alert
The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client’s measurement.
The rule
You decide once. IRIS applies it always.
If
there is an object on the roadway of the bore that was not there and is not moving
Then
- alert the control room supervisor with the camera, the location and the lanes affected
- say how many vehicles have already stopped behind it
- keep the video from before the load came off
The instruction that set it up«Tell me if a load or any object ends up on the roadway inside the tunnel.»
What changes
What changes for whoever answers for the site
An object on a tunnel roadway doesn’t move itself and can’t be seen coming: whoever enters the bore goes from daylight into gloom and finds it right in front of them. Here there are two lanes full of pipes and boxes, and cars keep coming in behind. What normally happens today is that the control room hears about it from whoever manages to call from inside, and inside there’s no signal. IRIS sees the object the moment it’s on the roadway and alerts with the camera, the location and the lanes, which is exactly what you need to decide whether to close one lane or the whole bore. It clears nothing: it brings the decision forward.
What people usually ask
How does IRIS know that isn’t a shadow or a stain on the road?
Because what it looks for is a change that stays. A shadow moves with the light and a stain has been there for months; a fallen object appears all at once and is still in the same place seconds later. That’s the rule, and the waiting time is set by the operator of the tunnel: shorter where speeds are high, longer where they aren’t.
What if the object is very small?
There’s a limit and it shouldn’t be hidden: the smaller the object and the further from the camera, the fewer pixels it occupies and the harder it is to tell apart. IRIS sees well what can stop a car — a wheel, a pallet, a length of pipe — and it makes no promises about what it can’t. Claiming otherwise would be selling something we can’t demonstrate.
Does IRIS store the plate of the vehicle that lost the load?
No. IRIS doesn’t read license plates and it identifies nobody. It sees a stopped vehicle, the load on the roadway and a person on the truck bed. The image goes into the tunnel’s incident report, and who was driving is established by others, with their own means, not by the camera.

A new case each time. Always the same screen.
It plays by itself and shows one case from start to finish. It’s a summary: the real screen has far more functions than fit in this box.
- The alert fires
- It lands in the tray
- You open it

Venues and trade shows
What does a venue with twenty thousand people inside see?
15 cases: 11 raise an alert when something happens and 4 only measure. You see each image as it is, and then with what IRIS understands on top.

When does a bad review get decided?
15 cases: 11 raise an alert when something happens and 4 only measure. You see each image as it is, and then with what IRIS understands on top.
And the best part
A recording gets watched when nothing can be done.An alert lands while there’s still time to act.
IRIS raises the alert while it’s happening and says where: the camera, the time and the images from that moment. With that, whoever is on duty is still in time to act.
