What changes
What changes for whoever runs the car park
A reserved bay is only worth something if it is free when it is needed. Today that comes to light when somebody complains, and by then there is nothing to show. With the camera the manager has the fact with time and video: a vehicle inside the bay, how long it has been there, and whether the system had a permit linked to that bay at that moment. That lets him settle it there and then, not the next day.
What people usually ask
Does IRIS know whether the driver holds a parking permit?
No. IRIS does not know who is driving or what papers they carry: it identifies nobody and it does not read plates. It sees that a vehicle is inside a reserved bay and how long it has been there. The permit lives in the car park system, and it is that system that answers whether the bay was assigned to somebody at that moment.
What if the car only stops for a minute?
It depends on what the car park decides. The threshold is written by whoever runs the site: it can be two minutes, five or none. IRIS times from the second the vehicle comes to rest inside the drawn zone and alerts when the configured time is passed. IRIS does not write the rule.
Does it also work for loading bays or fleet bays?
Yes. The reserved bay is a zone drawn on the image, and it makes no difference what it is reserved for: accessible, charging, permit holder, family, fleet or loading. The zone changes and the system the permit is checked against changes. What the camera does is always the same: see that a vehicle is inside and time it.
