CAM-414

An open chamber in the middle of the walkway, no barrier, no sign

Late afternoon in the yard of the pumping station. A chamber is open in the middle of the walking route, its cover propped two metres away and the ladder inside on view. There is no barrier, no cone, no tape and nobody controlling the access. An operator walks past a couple of metres away looking at his phone and does not see it. IRIS sees the dark mouth of the chamber, the cover out of place and no barrier around it, and starts counting the time.

What IRIS understands

What it recognises in this scene

  • chamber open with no barrier
  • cover set aside on the ground
  • operator walking past looking at his phone
  • bollard, outside the chamber area
  • life ring on the tank

What this camera measures

An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.

  • 1Open chambers in shot
  • 0Barriers around the chamber
  • 1People in the yard
  • 12 minTime it has been open
  • 17:38Time of the alert

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

a chamber is open and there is no barrier and nobody controlling the access

Then

  1. alert the site manager with the camera, the time and how long it has been open
  2. save the picture of the open chamber and of the cover moved aside
  3. repeat the alert at intervals until the chamber is closed
The instruction that set it up«Tell me if a chamber has been open for more than ten minutes with no barrier around it.»

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

A chamber is opened to work in and closed when the job is done; the problem is the stretch in between, and above all the one still open when the shift leaves. The alert tells the site manager which chamber it is and how long it has been open, and the counter keeps running until it is closed. It is an uncomfortable number, and that is exactly why it works: what gets measured gets closed sooner.

What people usually ask

And if the chamber is open because work is going on?

Then it should not fire, and it does not fire if the plant sets it up that way. The rule is written by the site: it can be asked to alert only when nobody is nearby, only when there is no barrier around, or only past a certain time. IRIS applies the condition; deciding which condition is the right one belongs to whoever knows the job, not to the camera.

How does it tell an open chamber from a closed one?

By the image. A closed chamber is a lid; an open one is a dark hole with the lid out of place and, often, the ladder in view. The difference is large and it holds up through the day. Where there are very hard shadows or puddles, it is worth checking the framing before signing the rule off, and that check is done.

Can it count how long it has been open?

Yes. That is what it does best: the counter starts when the cover leaves its place and stops when it comes back. You get the minute it was opened, the minute it was closed and the video of both moments. That shows whether the problem is a one-off or whether there is one particular chamber left open every week, which is the information that lets you fix it.

See it for yourself

A new case each time. Always the same screen.

It plays by itself and shows one case from start to finish. It is a summary: the real screen has far more functions than fit in this box.

  1. The rule gets built
  2. It goes to every camera
  3. Published, it watches alone
  4. And then it fires

And the best part

Video tells you what happened. An alert reaches you while it is happening.

Reviewing the recording helps you explain. Hearing about it at the time helps you get there. Two different things, and until now you only had the first.

Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

We reply the same working day.
