CAM-433

The bale stack has slid onto the yard

Twenty past six in the evening. The bale stack rises well above the concrete wall and the face towards the yard has already moved: broken bales and loose material have rolled some nine metres across the apron and covered the yellow lane marking. A worker in a white helmet and vest is walking a few metres from the toe of the slope. A triangular warning sign hangs on the wall to the right. On the left, an open skip full of waste.

What IRIS understands

What it recognises in this scene

  • stack above the wall
  • collapsed material
  • person beside the slope
  • danger sign
  • open skip

What this camera measures

An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.

  • 6 mheight of the stack
  • 9 mreach of the collapse
  • 1people near the slope
  • 1lanes blocked
  • 18:20time of the alert

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

a stack rises above the marked height or material slides onto the tipping yard

Then

  1. alert the yard supervisor and the machine working nearby
  2. save the video of the collapse and the minutes before it
  3. log the camera, the time and how far the material reached
The instruction that set it up«Tell me if a stack goes above the wall or if material slides onto the yard.»

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

A paper bale weighs as much as a small car and comes down without warning. The problem here is not only the person walking nearby: the material has covered the lane the trucks use. The alert arrives with the camera, the time and the video, so the yard supervisor knows which lane is blocked before the next truck arrives. And the height of the stack can be watched every day against the same reference: the top of the wall, which does not move.

What people usually ask

How does IRIS know the stack is too high?

By comparing it with something visible in the picture itself. Here the reference is the top of the concrete wall, which does not move: if the material goes above it, you can see it. The plant decides how many metres above the wall are acceptable, and from there IRIS alerts. It is a measurement against a physical reference, not an estimate.

Does it warn before the pile falls?

IRIS does not predict. What it does do is alert when the stack goes above the agreed height, and that is usually days before the collapse: that is where the value is. Once the material is already coming down, it alerts while it falls, with the video. Nobody can guess the exact minute of a slide, least of all a camera.

Can the same camera check that the lane stays clear?

Yes. It is the same picture and the same reference: the yellow marking on the ground. If material covers it, the rule can alert that the lane is blocked, which is what you need to know before sending a truck or a forklift there. One camera can carry several rules at once.

See it for yourself

A camera looks. IRIS understands what it sees.

An extract of the real screen, no voice-over and hands-free. Each round poses another situation. What sits behind it is a good deal bigger than what you see.

  1. You draw the line
  2. It counts by itself
  3. A number comes out

And the best part

Adding a camera costs what it costs;adding someone to watch it costs every single month.

Past a certain number, almost nobody is watching anything. IRIS watches them all at once and only calls you when something you said mattered happens in one of them.

Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

We reply the same working day.
