In a waste plant, walking into a running shredder enclosure is one of the few things that kills. The alert goes out while the person is still inside, with the camera and the time, to the hall supervisor and the control room. Worth saying plainly: IRIS sees that no isolation is visible, gate open, nobody locking off, machine turning, but it does not verify that the energy is isolated. Does IRIS check that the shredder is locked off?
No. IRIS sees what is in front of the camera: the gate open, the person inside and the machine turning, and it sees that no isolation is visible. But it does not verify that the energy is isolated; the lockout procedure and the person who signs it guarantee that. What the camera adds is the alert while it is happening and the video of the exact minute.
How is this different from clearing a jam?
Here someone crosses a guard to reach the machine; in a jam clearance the person is already inside the equipment pulling material out. They are two different rules on two different cameras, because what you see is different: in one, an open gate and someone stepping through it; in the other, a body inside the mouth of a press. Both alert while it is happening.
What if the person entering is the maintenance technician?
It still alerts, and it should. IRIS does not know who anybody is, and it does not need to: it detects that the guard was opened while the machine was running. If maintenance goes in with the machine stopped and locked off, the alert is closed in a moment with the video in front of you. Who may enter and when is decided by the plant, not by the camera.
