CAM-335

A machine is digging right over the pipeline

Mid-morning, right against the plant fence. A yellow backhoe is lifting a bucket of soil straight over the trench. Down inside, the buried pipe is already showing, with its red bands. One worker in helmet and vest is bent over it; another watches from the edge. Yellow barriers and red-and-white tape ring the hole, and a white pickup is parked on the track. IRIS sees the machine, the open trench and the exposed pipe, and marks each one in the frame.

What IRIS understands

What it recognises in this scene

  • backhoe working over the pipeline route
  • trench open over the pipeline
  • buried pipe now exposed
  • worker bent over the pipe
  • fence of the installation
  • pickup parked inside the strip

What this camera measures

An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.

  • 10:12time the machine entered
  • 00:31time spent digging so far
  • 1machines inside the strip
  • 4people inside the barriers
  • 2vehicles inside the strip

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

excavation plant or a heavy vehicle enters the pipeline protection strip

Then

  1. alert the control room with the camera, the time and the image of the machine
  2. save the video from the moment the machine entered the strip
  3. count the machines, the people and the vehicles inside
The instruction that set it up«Tell me if excavation plant or a heavy vehicle enters the pipeline strip.»

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

A bucket strike is the leading cause of pipeline damage, and it is almost never the crew that holds the permit. Once the machine turns up, somebody has to see it and make a call before the second pass. A camera watching the protection strip reports as soon as plant enters, with the time and the image. From there the pipeline manager decides whether the work is authorised or whether everything stops and someone drives out.

What people usually ask

Can a camera watch kilometres of pipeline?

No, not the whole route. A camera covers what it sees: a crossing, a valve, the stretch beside the fence, the point where the line runs close to a road. There it does report as soon as plant enters. The rest still needs patrols, flyovers or buried sensors. IRIS covers the points that already have a camera, and it covers them around the clock.

How does it tell authorised work from work that is not?

Not on its own. IRIS sees that a machine is digging inside the strip and reports it with the time and the image. Who holds a permit that day is what the company permit system says, not the camera. What changes is that the check happens in the first minute, not after something has already broken.

Does it also pick up trenchless drilling?

It picks up what is visible in the frame: the machine, the truck, the people and the moved soil. If the drilling is done by a rig that is visible inside the strip, then yes, it reports it. If the rig works outside the camera field, it does not. A camera does not see underground: that is what line inspection and its sensors are for.

Simulation · how IRIS works

No extra alarms here. Just what needs looking at.

Not a recorded video, not an explanatory drawing: a summary of the real screen, with a different case every time it starts. There is a lot more behind it.

  1. The alert fires
  2. It lands in the tray
  3. You open it
  4. You confirm or dismiss

And the best part

Nothing changes on the wall.On the screen, everything changes.

Same brackets, same cabling, same cameras. The only difference is that those images are now understood as they come in, instead of waiting for someone to open them.

Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

We reply the same working day.
