What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

Eleven in the morning on an ordinary Tuesday, and the excavator has already taken two passes. A bucket strike sets off no alarm of its own: it leaves the pipe scored or torn, and the leak turns up hours later, once the machine has gone. So somebody has to see it and call before the third pass. A camera watching the protection strip raises the alert as soon as machinery enters, with the time and the image. With that, the network manager decides whether it is authorized work or whether it has to stop and someone has to go out there.

What people usually ask

Can a camera watch miles of pipeline?

No, not the whole route. A camera covers what it sees: a crossing, a valve, the stretch beside the fence, the point where the line runs close to a road. There it does report as soon as plant enters. The rest still needs patrols, flyovers or buried sensors. IRIS covers the points that already have a camera, and it covers them around the clock.

How does it tell authorized work from work that isn’t?

Not on its own. IRIS sees that a machine is digging inside the strip and reports it with the time and the image. Who holds a permit that day is what the company permit system says, not the camera. What changes is that the check happens in the first minute, not after something has already broken.

Does it also pick up trenchless drilling?

It picks up what’s visible in the frame: the machine, the truck, the people and the moved soil. If the drilling is done by a rig that’s visible inside the strip, then yes, it reports it. If the rig works outside the camera field, it doesn’t. A camera doesn’t see underground: that’s what line inspection and its sensors are for.
