Clearing a jam by hand is one of the most dangerous jobs at a crushing plant, and it never shows up in any report until it goes wrong. With the alert as it happens, the manager knows which hopper, at what time and how long it has been stopped, and sees on the video that somebody is up there. And there is a number: how many hand-clearings that point has in a month. A point that jams every day is not a discipline problem, it is a design problem.
What people usually ask
Can IRIS tell a blocked hopper from an empty one?
Yes, because they look different. Blocked means material sitting still over the mouth and spilling over the side; empty means the mouth in plain view and nothing coming down. The camera watches the movement of the material, not an electrical level signal, so it also warns on the days the level probe misses it.
Can IRIS stop the feed when it detects the jam?
No. IRIS acts on no machine: it alerts, with the camera, the time and the video. Cutting the feed, pulling the loader back or sending somebody onto the walkway are the plant’s decisions. What changes is that they are taken with the image in front of you and in the minute it is happening, not half an hour later.
Is the data any use to justify rebuilding the point?
Yes. Every alert is kept with its hopper and its time, so you can show how many times it jams in a month and how many times somebody had to put their hands in. That count is what turns a request for investment into a case file with dates and footage.
